Ein deutsches Essen passt nicht für alle. In jeder Region der Vereinigten Staaten gibt es unterschiedliche kulinarische Erfindungen. Es gibt preußische, russische, bayerische und hanvarianische who are just as different as chicken fried steak to New England clam chowder. Around here we have potato Germans, bread Germans and noodle Germans. All Germans, but they all eat different, comparing where they came from. Our scrapple is gristvoosche, and is made with oatmeal not corn.

You are right on a couple of counts there start flake and I am from as far north in Germany as one can get. But that does not mean that I can't make some spaetzle or Knoedel ... I do draw the line at Weisswurst though .. never could stand those things.

My grandpa's name was Ludwig Zimmerman and he came to this country when he was 2 years old in 1898.
Orneriest man I have ever known, but he had 5 sons, one being my father, who all at one time fought the Germans in WWII. lol
Scuba, you get on dry land and we would like to come and visit. Never been to Tennessee, but can bring some good Wisconsin bratwurst.

I've been craving me some Rosti. Can't find an umlaut on my computer. Or Zurich Geschnetzeles. Ich Switzerdeutsch. My Grandfather was from St. Gallen and my Grandmother from Appenzell. Just found out short time ago we are the hillbillies of Switzerland. Lol.

Too bad you don't live in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has the highest percentage of citizens with German as their main heritage than any state in the USA. As late as 1990 it was still at 50% or a tad more.
Some of the very best German restaurants in the USA are in Wisconsin with many in the Milwaukee area.
