Back in time in Alabama

Back in time in Alabama - 07/08/19 07:38 PM

Just travelled thru SE Alabama on way to NTA in Springfield. Been a while since I drove from Eufaula to Montgomery, AL. Dang that was like driving thru a time warp...going back 50 years.

I drove on some two lane highway through central Florida once. About a 1/2 hour past tee city it felt like it was the 1920s. Didn't look like anything got updated. Surprised to see tiny little cinder block homes not much bigger than a chicknn coop with people sitting on the stoop in the heat of the day. Wouldn't doubt it if they lacked AC or even electricity.

That flag is on I-65 between Montgomery and Birmingham.

But the flag isnt what I was referring to when I said it was like going back in time. It was the rural, run-down stretch between Eufaula and Montgomery.

Why heck Swamp Wolf, If you would have came just a few miles farther you could have seen the northernmost bastion of Confederate defenses...Western Kentucky, the Confederate side of the Bluegrass.

Long overdue for a good clean up. Has he gotten to Wesley's Booby Trap yet? For those who don't know it's as bad as it sounds. LOL

Don't be bringing up Wesley's Booby Trap, dern Savell will be wondering over here to check it out, start talking about how big and bad TX is and get kilt, lol.

No money spent on motels . My son has hundreds of thousands of motel points due to working out of town and staying in dozens of motels over past few years.

That would be way to easy to find in Jonesboro, AR. or even in the greater 4 state area if in a pinch....Could have stayed up for the whole convention, and the trip back home, and I do mean trip, . Lol.

Fellers, I have never been to the deep south but would like to see it one day. I don't give a happy G-Dam about the Civil War really.
Would a northern guy get lynched down in that country or would a fine upstanding fellow such as myself be able to get along?
I know there are online programs to learn foreign languages and I would enroll in one to be able to understand ya'll.
I actually shot the breeze with Jtrapper for a short time in Owatonna MN. at a hotel but I don't think we understood each other,
but it was pretty early in the morning.

You'd be more than welcome and invited to make yourself to home. We pride ourselves on hospitality and would be ashamed to turn away a stranger even if they do talk funny. Just don't bring up the recent unpleasantness and we'll get along just fine.

Zim,

You would have no problems at all, just like I don't when I go up North...We just like to cut up and rub it in here on TrapperMan sometimes.

Besides, so much of the south has moved north, and vice versa it's pretty well blurred the lines anyhow.

As long as a person is respectful (laughing to yourself over the way we talk is okay though) you can get along pretty much anywhere.....Just be ready for some ribbing, Lol.

I hear Pickens County is in the market for a new sheriff as well.

My in-laws live just north of Winfield. We went up there two weekends ago, and it was the first time I'd seen the now world famous Eldridge Dollar General. It's a big deal up in those parts! We also had to make our lunch stop at Cedar Landing. My little boy is a hit with the waitresses in there.
