Texas New Sanctuary Border County - 07/12/19 04:02 AM

The commissioners court of Presidio County Texas voted Wednesday July 10, 2019 to make the County a sanctuary.

You will be surprised as to what they voted on by going to this link to see the story https://texasscorecard.com/state/presidio-county-declares-itself-second-amendment-sanctuary/

Presidio is a large county on the Mexican border and I am not aware of any county that has been declared as a second amendment sanctuary.

The really surprising thing is that all the County officials are Democrats.

A friend of mine is the Republican party county chairperson and she said she only has two members registered, her and her husband. LOL

Other than being a political statement, what does it mean? Nothing I can see.

If the commissioners think they can exempt their county from constitutional federal law, they're kidding themselves.

And what's to stop some future political body from declaring the county gun control friendly?

If I was a constituent, I'd tell them to quit playing politics and get to work on something useful for the county.

Can't the same be said about declaring sanctuary status for illegals or legalizing weed?

Aren’t states like California, New York, New Mexico, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, etc. already doing this? By declaring counties in these states sanctuary counties from gun laws means one less law enforcement agency that will infringe on our 2nd amendment rights. There are a lot of counties in the US that have sheriff departments and the more that support us, in my opinion, the better for our side.

It's no different than states that "legalize" marijuana. Those states can't legalize marijuana, it's illegal at the federal level, and while the state LEOs won't do anything about, there's nothing to stop the feds from sweeping in and arresting every stoner and shutting down every pot shop in Colorado.

These counties are just saying they won't enforce laws they see as unconstitutional, their LEOs won't arrest someone who violates a law they see as unconstitutional. But there's nothing to prevent feds from coming in and arresting people, even though they say they'll arrest feds that come into their county to enforce gun laws.

That's not to say I don't like either the weed or the gun "sanctuaries", I do. Both have good grounds. Regarding the weed, nobody has the right to tell anybody what they can't, or have to, put in their body, and regarding the guns, "shall not be infringed" explains it all.

it is a political statement , but if the Fed can say it is not the state or county's place to enforce federal law and the Fed has a history of not enforcing and many counties and states are refusing to enforce state or federal law on other crimes.

your absolutely right it does mean that the FBI or ATF can't come down and enforce their law. but it doesn't mean the county needs to assist them in any way.

the way enforcement of nearly anything in this country works is the local PD or Sherrif make the arrest , gather the evidence and sometimes the FBI sends a guy to supervise but mostly not. If DEA was leading the way on drugs we would see dea agents all over the place. we don't , what we see is our multi state drug task-force additional training and jurisdiction but ultimately local patrol officers and detectives doing nearly all the work.

if the safe haven counties that will not report Illegal aliens so that they can get some cooperation on local policing matters won't report to ICE then the local sherrif and DA can choose not to waste there time penalizing the citizens who elect them based on unconstitutional whether the fed sees it as such or not gun legislation enforcement.

Good for the people who live there and the ones running the county!!

Way better than any "sanctuary" I've ever heard of the liberals claim, hands down.
