Trap Cookie Cutter?

Has anybody used the red trap cookie cutter for their MB 550's? If so what did you think of it? Did the cutter take a beating from hammering it in to the ground?
I've been thinking about spending the money and getting one to use this season and would like to hear some feedback from anybody who has used one.

Bigbuck we bought one last season to try it out. Was a complete waste of money, in my opinion. I’m sure In the proper soil or conditions it would work great but didn’t have much luck. Never got around to trying it in frozen ground though

I can dig em faster without it, and it’s heavy if you walk in.

That's been my experience with it. It takes a considerable amount of effort to drive it into the ground where I'm at and I would up relegating it to the dust bin.

Gary I made one out of an air cylinder in 83 , I like mine pound it in and cut the ears out with your shovel and your done , sometimes I use the plug for a backing .
What I see wrong with the ones you buy they are to heavy .

I am going to try it this year. I bought a used one and was thinking it would work well cutting through the sod. Might have to finish the bed but I think it would help make it easier to bed a trap in some instances.

I make them out of well casing then weld on the ears. Problem isn't that they wont cut a bed in frozen ground. The problem occurs when its froze deeper then your cutter cuts. Not allowing the plug to come free. Sure there not for everyone but in the rite situation its awful quick and nice .Little to no disturbance. Were I feel they shine are blind and flat sets.If your mainly a d-holer no they wont speed you up. I found on dirtholes and trench sets a cutter just slows me down. Rocky or loose soil they are worthless! Sod or ag fields are were they shine.Flat sets in field roads are about the only place I drag mine out any more.[Linked Image]

And I can say Tony's are heavy duty and will take a pounding and last...

I also have a home made one made from well casing It is more than 20 years old . It has taken a beating and is still in great shape . Depending on the size trap I am using I need to do some finish work with a hammer or shovel to get the trap solid . But once it is like I want it I know it is solid . I have a sharp edge on the down side .That helps it cut through sod and pushes small stones aside . And if I know there are places I want to set after freeze up I some times pre cut beds and put the plug back in place .If you do a lot of walking than you will not like the weight .In my younger days I just put up with it .Now most of my sets are in areas I drive to or near to. It has it's place on my line but I can see it is like any tool . The right one for the right job

Depending on your soil AND you keep it sharpened, it could work well for you.

Too many rocks and its a no go.

These may be a good deal some may say. However, I think it is just another piece of equipment you can do just as well with out. If you get good at digging with your trowel or small shovel and start small you can dig a bed just the right size with some practice. Work hard at getting the right size bed dug and in a few years it will just come natural. Less to carry in and less stuff to loose! Just my humble opinion!
