I'm privileged to have been raised by that generation.
I as well, not enough can be said about what a lot of them went through not just in the war but afterwards as well
My dad had nightmares as long as I can remember and died at 53 from service related causes and knew he was going to die young, but I never heard him complain in fact he was as the guy that the VA got a o talk to those people that were having problems
I know that he was reported dead twice and once spent a couple weeks trapped behind Japanese lines after his position was overrun, dad never talked about what he went through except for some of the guys he knew and some of the things they did outside the fighting such as shooting sharks where they were dumping garbage and watching the islanders swim out and wrestle them into shore
Dad really admired those islanders and could talk your ear off on how good they were in the jungle
