Luck at a casino??? - 08/25/19 03:47 PM

Yea, I know they weren't built to let ppl win money, but do you know anyone who has luck regularly?
I went in last night with $100 and left with $170. 30
Minutes later. Casinos have spent alot of time studying ppls habits and weaknesses. They want you to win a little, get confident, and get stupid. I have my own theory.

I have a couple buddies that hit some jackpots on slots. One won around $4k, the other around $12k.

When I'm in Vegas, my game of choice is Pai Gow Poker. Even better if it's a $5 minimum bet table.

Luck? you'll need it.
94% of people who go into a Las Vegas casino come out with less money than they walked in with.
You have even worse odds in Indian owned casinos.

Live in Reno and like most that live here we don't play very often.
When we do play its just like anything else set up front cost (like a movie ticket) and cash out when my money is doubled and play on the original amount. Figure im even but had an evenings entertainment.
Play old style 3 reel quater machines or blackjack if single deck and under 5 dollar minimum

Sounds like a good time.

Having worked in a casino yes there are lucky people who just constantly win. Last night I stopped at the casino I once worked at for a quick bite before coming home. Made $30 including cost for dinner and tipping the dealers

My buddy goes often and is stupidly lucky. I've gone with him a few times and he does really well.

Your best odds are on tables with roulette being the highest odds. With tables you really gotta know how to play them. One thing to keep in mind especially in blackjack is it's a team game. What you do affects everyone including the house. Craps and roulette are individual games meaning what you play doesn't affect other players.
Slots are completely random with millions of combinations per second. Always Always play at least all lines with 1x bet. Some slots give advantage to playing higher line bets. Example 30 lines at $0.01 x30 with a 5x bet means $1.50 bet per spin .

I have more tips but you get a good idea

Play the only game you have a chance in percentage wise if you’re afraid to lose money. Blackjack can be very profitable if you play the odds in your favor and do basic math and can stick it out. I still like to roll the dice on some high end slots mainly for the allure of the quick hit. I never take money I can’t live without.

Adam roulette has a fixed house advantage every spin. Blackjack can lean a lot higher in the favor of the player than the house compared to roulette. Anyone going to a casino relying on luck to come out ahead will be sorely disappointed.

Very true, but has the highest yield per bet. I was taught a technique by dealers that has done me well. I hardly play roulette anymore. I Mainly play blackjack now when it comes to tables. I sat playing for almost 2 hrs last night with a $25 buy in

Dad always said look at as entertainment and take the cost of a nice dinner and a show and split it between the 2 of you and enjoy it till its gone. Might be 10 mins or 4 hours. Best way to double your money is fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

For number years, I used spend on average $20 a week, not every week but lot on .25 slots mostly, a poor slot play, not made to consistently win, probly about every other week, nowadays I put $5 or $10 in Penney slot an mostly just .10 cents a spin, I won $10.70 an quit last nite, alot ppl that win, just keep go for bigger prize an it dont happen, I knowen some other ppl that go there like fools an loose lots, u have to take risks an bet like 100 or more pennies at a time for chance of higher prize, some casinos are better others, I like slots that have free bonus spins, up to 100 free spins, I got 10 free spins like last nite an 3 spins, is what got the $10.70 on, actually 5 more cents than that but bet 5- 1 cents bets to see if machine keep win, but didn't an collect ticket an went got small prize left

Back in the day when the Eldorado first opened I made a bunch of trips there. Blackjack is one of the few games where the odds sometimes favor the player. When I worked at it I was able to play good enough to get myself banned from the blackjack tables in the Reno Eldorado. No luck involved. Those were the days & it is not easy. Some nights I only had enough money left to buy breakfast at McDonald's on my way to the Sage Hill Gun Club. After being banned the fun of gambling was gone and I probably haven't wagered $50 in the past 30 years. Believe this when you are on a $25 table they keep an eye on you & blackjack is the only game that I know of where they will ask you to stop if they don't like the way you bet.

Re: Luck at a casino??? - 08/25/19 07:05 PM

Gambling in the casinos is all statistics and the odds are built into the machines and tables. You may get lucky 3 times in a row but will loose if you keep going. The odds maybe close but always in the casinos favor, always. They may only make 3 cents on the dollar but over millions of plays it adds up in their favor. Simply odds, statistics and volume of play. The odds are built into the machine and the type of game and even regulated by the state. The only bet that is not in there favor is the come out bet on dice. The chances of rolling a 7 or 11 are better than any other number on the dice. Once the roll is made and it comes out another number the odds are in there favor. Given that the best bet in Vegas is going to the dice table putting all that your going to game with on the come out line and hope. Given that it is not a fun way to gamble over in seconds. There are some games where the card counting can help you if you can do it. Few can and the ones that do can be called off the table and banned from casinos.

I sat down and put $100 bill in the machine. I figure the machine thinks Im staying for awhile and lets me win $15-20. I cash out, let the machine rest 5 minutes, and stuck another $100 in it. I won $15-20 every go-round that way and went home with an xtra $70 in less than a half hour. My clothes stunk like cig smoke though. 🙂

Last time I played craps I did well. I think I walked with a few hundred. I made the dealers probably the same amount in tips. That was a rare night where I was betting the horn and made most of the money.
Ran into one of the dealers (from that night) a few times and we chat. He's now at the casino I used to work at and was one of the dealers during my blackjack play last night.

I worked as fire command in one. Watching folks get glazed over looks and forget to take heart and diabetes medication is no fun. I’ll say we had horse racing and that was fun to watch, I never bet on them. But being around the horses, jockeys and trainers and watching them race was fun.

Yes it is just for fun, lot retired folks go on bus trips or just go there, lots casinos around my area, within 100 miles, 2 within less than 20 miles, I have notice on occasion, u win something at slot or much, there ppl in casino that don't work there, that come over an check u out, there ones that hang around there look for that stuff, u got watch it, there looking for stupid ppl or anything, 1 time I win close $300 an cocktail waitress say I get u your winnings, follow her an gave her ticket. She short change me $5 , for her tip. U wanna watch u do, there always could be crooks around az heard few stories, not sure if much nowadays, as FBI , has office in there as federal laws gambling. I won around $300 twice, an $100 on way home from ita convention, that the most , other than $ few bucks to $20 -$40, above $25, very rarely, all i ever play is slots, rarely dollar ones an mostly lower machines, i find Penney slots the way to go an right Penney slot is much more productive than .25 slot, have seen some slots in casino that are ancient, ripoff ones that never pay out

Casinos have made me a lot of money, probably $100k or more... But I was being paid to build the stupid things.

I always laugh at how ridiculously picky they are about the structure... Once the sheetrock goes up they won't let anyone smoke in the building... Until they open for business. Ironic.

Not me. I lost a nickel once and didn't like how it felt so I am no gambler. I make my luck the old fashioned way.

Knew a guy at a plant I worked at years ago. Engineer like me but he was way smart, card carrying member of MENSA and quite proud of it. Went to Vegas one year and did pretty well. Thought he had a winning system. He planned to go back the following year and become a pro gambler if it worked out. When he went back he was confident enough to have a resignation letter prepared and in the hands of his boss to be turned in on a phone call if he was winning again. Lost his butt of course and was back at work the next week with his MENSA tail tucked.

Patience and control are the keys. I am very patient and I also have a limit that I hold to and once its gone so am I. I enjoy black jack immensely and can sit at a table for hours but I never push my
betting. I can honestly say that at the end of the year I am usually up between my Texas Holdum games and casino blackjack. But I don't play a whole lot either.

Re: Luck at a casino??? - 08/26/19 02:18 PM

I dont have the luck to win big in one, I have won 600 once that's the best I did. I have a buddy who plays it big and wins big one year he had won over 100 grand, that's the best year he has had most years he win around 30 to 50 grand. Every time he goes its strait to the big dollar machines and bets max, he may lose 300 before he hits for anything great. He definitely has a problem with it but I guess it's his life and he can do as he wishes. He won 15 grand one year in November and told me he was going to buy everyone in his family a great Christmas present well come mid December I ask what he got he told me he lost most back to the casino.

I believe that's the system where you raise your bet if you win and lower back to minimum when you lose.
Keep in mind you'll have to have enough to cover any splits or double downs.

I play fairly flat where my bets are consistent. I might raise my bet once in awhile or play side bets more. Side bets are definitely the house advantage but when they hit they are great.

It's separate payouts that build as you play they are at the top of the machine listed from Mini to Mega. So the Mini might pay $15 to start, a minor, major then mega payouts. A few months ago me and the wife did a overnight by Sioux Falls and a Lady not far away won $16,000.

You'll win big eventually so everyone needs to head to Vegas. Quick, easy money. Think of all the trapping supplies you'll be able to buy. Maybe a new ATV or Side by Side. Get something nice for your wife. It's awesome. Sure you might think youre loosing, but eventually you'll come out on top. Haha. Thats what I tell people because i like having no state income tax haha

Amen to this, how many times I was up a few hundred to walk away only a hundred up. You always try to keep going and win big but it usually doesn't happen. Set an amount
to be up and when you hit it leave!!

Re: Luck at a casino??? - 08/26/19 07:55 PM

Casinos aren't built and paying their bills on what you win. A lot of people get po'd when they lose but the odds are against you. I rarely go in one on my time off. Maybe once or twice a year. I've been to Vegas twice and I know we didn't spend $100.00 each time between the 2 of us.
Look at it as strictly entertainment. Unfortunately many don't.

Re: Luck at a casino??? - 08/27/19 12:33 AM

I had the good fortune to spend time in a leadership session with the Oneida Nation just after they had their first smaller casino up and running. This was 25 years ago but the game plans are the same. Typically when they are first running they will set the machines for an average say 17% payout which at that time was above the average. With the looser machines there were more winners and thus more traffic. As users increased they then would tighten machines to the mid to upper 80s. Many times it would take gamblers 30- minutes to an hour to loose say 20-50 dollars on say a quarter machine. As profits increased the casino would get paid off. While I was visiting at that time they were building a much larger casino and paying for it with monthly profits. This was about 4 years after the first smaller one was up and running. They stated also that after about 6-7 years they knew that a lot of the easy cash monies were gone and that is when they would invest in hotels, convention centers etc. so they would have continued revenue streams. They put a lot thought and thinking into their plan and have been very, very successful as a nation. They are making enough money over the last decades to buy back all the reservation land they sold twice before. They are the strongest land bidders in their area and they are now raising crops for surrounding large dairy farms and giving them places to haul their manure. Unemployment rates on the reservation are still above the surrounding average but very low by Native American standards in other areas.

A 13-15% return does not sound like a whole lot but when one figures how many times the other 83-85% gets cycled through the system profits multiply very quickly.
