Coon traps

To quickly catch the most coon would you use the good old 11, 220, dp, or combination of the 3?

Depends what type of ground you're setting. 220s dont do a whole lot of good here for coon unless you plan on running lots of boxes and/or have ground you know someone wont run a pheasant dog through. Check your regs as well. They have to be recessed here for the duration of good coon trapping.

The number 11 is a good coon trap for water sets , though I have used dog proofs on river banks with good luck side by side with a double long spring. Dry land I'd grab dog proofs though. They are just so much faster for me.

Maybe some Indiana trappers can chime in for you.

I’m in Ohio and now I would defiantly using dps. Faster than any other thing you might use

In WI I would not use 220s due to the regs and I feel that using your choice of say all three would give you the best success at each location that may have far different factors to choose from.
If you are concerned about non target catches and want to catch a lot of coon then utilizing a lot of DPs and gang setting heavy could still give you decent numbers.
In the past for me the fastest way to set and check a line was with body grippers in well used trails. Easy to set, low maintenance and catch is dry and dispatched when you check. There are location and usage issue with those so that is a concern. I have moved more away from foot holds on the dry lines and use them quite a bit on my water line.

I think over all the dps are the quickest to set and go but I do make pocket sets too. We’re not allowed to use the 220s on land here

Faster but a much lower catch percentage. DPs are just for areas where the other two might be a poor choice due to the possibility of catching pets.

Thanks guys my 80 year old aunt is pretty upset that she has no freezer corn this year because of the coon. I live a hour away and will only have one week to get this done. Trying to come up with a game plan

Can you use cage traps? PLEASE be careful using a 220 on ground. Here we can use them but other states have lost the right to use them on ground. I only use them in late Dec. and Jan.

Carpet Bomb the place with a few of everything. DP's and 220's in the trails, 1-1/2 coils (or good old 11's) in trail sets and dirt holes.

My vote is for DPs. Fast, easy, seldom miss.
