converting a heater from natural gas to propane - 09/12/19 07:27 PM

I have been given a small 10-20,000 BTU rated heater .It is set/up for natural gas..am told to change the nozzle on the inside of the heater to a smaller one.It would be perfect to heat my fur shed.Any of you ever convert one of these to propane ? Is there a real danger[explosive or fire]..Any input from you HVAC or experienced plumbers would be appreciated.

Anytime you mess around with gas there is a chance for fire/explosion. Yo need to get an LP conversion for the specific heater. Some kits come with just the nozzle. Some come with a different spring for the gas valve and the nozzle. Some gas valves require adjustment after conversion some do not. I would probably first talk to the folks at your local LP gas company and see what they have to say.

It can be done safely .But be sure you talk to someone that knows what they are talking about .I had a natural gas ventless heater that I had converted to use a 20 or 30 lb propane bottle to heat a large tent while camping in the woods during the W VA fall archery and rifle deer season . As long as we properly vented the tent with some air flow we could maintain the temp in the tent at whatever temp we wanted it to be.We ran it every season for 10 to 14 days for about 7 to 10 years . I also use it to heat my garage from time to time if needed . Once when our furnace went out in Feb I was able to keep the house warm enough that the pipes did not freeze until we got it repaired . I never had any problem with it but you do need to get it set up correctly

I'm looking to do a LP conversion to my generator, and seems like these guy's can answer your questions.

For mine, $170 for gasoline/propane, and $200 for a tri-fuel, LP, Nat Gas, Gasoline

Live large, throw the free one away and buy one of these. I use two in Maine for the fur shed.

The wall mounted ones some have CO2 sensors and some have a blower motor that works on a thermostat that you can add.

The one we used had a thermostat . It was not a problem maintaining a constant temp no matter what you set it at . And it would run on a 30 lb cylinder for about 5 days in the coldest years we hunted there

Funny they make the LP models just order a set of jets for the LP model and try that.
