areal photo- stand locations! - 10/03/19 03:46 PM

All this hunting talk has me getting excited. I have not been out yet with the bow, but will soon. I'd like some other eyeballs or opinions. What look like good stand spots, funnels, etc. just looking at the areal photo- how would you hunt this?

The black rectangle is where I hunt. the green squares are food plots and the red dots are where I have stands. I always like other opinions, so thanks in advance to all the pro's out there!

Typically from the NW.

Need to see more of the surrounding area. You may not be on a major travel way connecting major bedding areas. That's what I look for when hunting mature bucks. Next is stands I can get into and out off without alerting deer they are being hunted. And stands that dont let my scent drift into any other bedding or travel areas within a couple hundred yards.

Yes, wide enough for a pick-up truck.

that 'figure 8' on the south is swampy- wet.. but not any ponds/creeks. the very NW corner of woods is the start of a tamarak swamp that has standing water.

I like the NW corner as it kind of connects to the large timber to the NW also maybe the area east of the farthest south red dot in the pinch point on the south side of the cover if that makes sense.

Yes- it sure does. To zoom in- you're talking about this general area?

Yes. Looks like easy access without them knowing your there and looks like it connects some good bedding areas. Disclaimer because area photos dont tell the whole story.

The place pointed out by yes sir was my first and most obvious. I see 2 others that stand out to me. Lower right corner there is a small secluded open area where 2 ridges come out and a 2 track in the timber goes almost to it. The other is kinda unconventional. The lower left corner where what appears to be a right of way running parallel to the main road. Deer should cross there staging to come and go from different properties plus it appears to give a long distance of sight which can get you out of their awareness zone. Also looks multiple wind friendly.

Can you access the property from any direction?

No Bucks- I can only access from the south and the west. I border east and north to private landowners.

Morning hunts..I'd go right up that road heading north and slip into where the two points meet..easy access and won't bump deer..

I'd follow that ditch up heading north west and slip into the edge I'd almost bet there is some scrape activity going on close by..

3rd I'd go in right through the marsh to that point and wait for the deer to come in a bed..

Course these would be rut hunts..

That's not much area your hunting I'd bet the deer get bump pretty easy to the neighboring properties or into that marsh area..now this is just my opinion if I had to hunt this farm..idk

what is the size of this property - an 80? I would pick the farthest NE corner right on the neighbors line..........looks like quite a bit of road influence otherwise

Probably a good idea, I doubt anyone on here knows how to kill a deer.

down wind from the best tracks and sign.

Find where the deer are bedding and get in the best spot between that and the food. Be aware of wind direction of your scent stream from the stand and while you access/egress. Consider the thermal flow also.
