wyoming non resident trapping license BS - 10/03/19 05:22 PM

any of yall non residents have any issues with restrictiins on your non resudent licenses? Jerry has trapped there for 20 plus years amd this year theyre telling him he cant trap marten.

hes arriving at the cheyenne office as we speak to find out whats wrong.
he was told by mr Wilson(supposedly the only one there that can approve non resident licenses that it was there mistake and he had no restrictions on his license but when he got it the restrictions were still there.w

now they say no marten..cause we aint got an..but he can still trap gadgets?? we aint got them either..but then they're not worth much either.

he has had no resteictions for the last 24 years and no laws In wv or wyoming have changed. since last year.

if what theyre saying is true if your state doesnt have marten you cant trap them there. the law In wv is no restrictions on non residents at all. if we had marten theyd be fair game.

cat trappers beware

any of y'all get a restricted license you dont think you deserve?

after contacting Mr Lund who had approved his licenses in the past,he got his license. since we dont have them but if we did non residents could trap them he is still able to trap them. a misundersting but its all sortes out now so hes got the green light again!

but if you got cats in your state and as a resident you can't trap them then you can't trap them in wyomi g

Interesting. We have marten here in WI, but they're protected.

I made 13 trapping trips out there, 10 with a fur license, one guy told me I couldn't get a non res license, I said I had bought a couple before, he went and checked with top hand f guy, that guy said yes, he said they figured if Iowa had a cat season it would be reciprocal, since then Iowa opened a bobcat season with a limit of one cat, I'm not sure if I would be limited to one there also?

I was going to add that when I trapped Wyoming I had to furnish the regulations that said Wyoming residents could trap Marten in my home state but if there was not a season then I could still trap them, I believe they were looking for limits mostly. Glad he got it figured out.

The way I understand it you can Tac20. So long as WY residents can trap under the same rules as residents of your state your good. They are not against limits to protect populations, just so long as its not protection from non residents.

Good friend of mine in PA that I actually met in WY went out the year that PA had their first bobcat season. Drawing for tags was limited to residents. He was told no cats. When PA cats were closed to everybody, WY let him trap them. Now that PA allows NR to trap cats under the same regs as residents, even though there is still a limit on harvest, WY allows him to trap under the same rules as WY residents again.

I think they pretty much let anybody trap anything unless its explicitly listed as a protected animal in your home state even if you don't have a population of that animal within 1000 miles .

Sounds like your trapping a certain area of SE Wy. Good luck, the marten were pretty much smoked in that area last year.

they explained it that since we aint got an here he can trap em there.

if wed had cats and couldnt trap them then he couldnt trap them there.

they said they'd had lots of heated arguments with non resident trappers who didnt like the reatrictions theyd placed on their licenses.

Sounds like me in college. In the late 90’s I couldn’t hunt deer in Oklahoma because we were a draw state only. Kansas came around pretty quick. Messed up some good hunts for me out of state. Oklahoma wasn’t the only state that said no deal!!

Good to know, maybe some day I will trap out there again, a big land owner told me to look him up if I ever come back out to trap coyote

I just moved to Wyoming and by the rules I am a non resident until next year. I spoke with the gentleman named before yesterday for a good bit and it is way more simple than the rule books can state because of legal jargon and what not. If the state you reside in were to limit a Wyoming resident from trapping anything a resident could then you will not get to trap that animal in Wyoming. You however do get the privilege of following Wyoming laws not your residing state. Which for me would suck because I moved from Washington. Lol. Very nice person he is and very knowledgeable and understanding. All he wants to do is follow the rules himself just like we need to.
