I have been impressed with my dewalt-- i wouldn't want to cut my firewood with it but it does fairly well on 8" or so fir or even seasoned oak. I got it for making h-braces on fences and taking out the occasional small tree/limb that is in the way and so far it has done well in those capacities. It's a little hard to get used to the slower chain speed, but i hate to fight with 2 cycles especially with old gas and when cold.

Recently bought a battery powered stihl for work. It's a pole saw with an 8" or so blade. No complaints so far. Only used it light duty at this point . It's better than working from the bucket of the backhoe for sure.

If chain is kept sharp they will surprise you how well they'll cut. I have an old corded Remington I got at Walmart probably 15 years ago, it's done lots of limb trimming.

Buy a stihl....


There are different models, and they all come with a 3 year warrenty on the saw, battery, and charger. They stand behind their products.......


I will give you a story from last week that has swayed me to stihl a lot... I work in a dealership as a mechanic, we sell stihl, husqvarna, craftsman, toro, ego, honda, and several others. I've been working on a MS 441 saw for a couple months. It has the new mtronic (computerized carb) on it. Every timeI thought I had the running good it would reset itself and die. After much trial and error, and a few calls to the stihl service tech we opted to replace the whole mtronic system (about $250 in parts). The saw was purchased in 2012 with a one year warrenty, so it was way past being fixed on stihls dime... but since it was a part that had been updated in the past Stihl replaced parts free the customer paid the labor. Most companies fight the warranty as much as possible, but not Stihl they make it right everytime.

I have an electric cheap brand and have had it for maybe 20 years. It has been a great tool for the yard and for smaller jobs. I have a 14' chain and will easily do that size of tree. If in the yard or small jobs of cutting wood I grab the electric every time. I use my gas ones only when I have too and at the ranch where I don't have power.

Just like any chain saw you need to keep things sharp.

It is nice to have the instant start/stop.

things to think about

1. with any chain saw electric , cordless , or gas . you should be tied into the tree so that you can use both hands.

2. electric saws don't use a clutch, chainsaw PPE personal protective equipment uses long Kevlar like fibers to jam up the clutch of a saw , electric saws can cut through PPE different than gas saws.

3 all saws even if you choose an electric or cordless you should have it on a lanyard off your climbing belt. the lanyard should be long enough that the saw should hang below your feet if dropped.

In a light duty, trimming capacity...I think electric would work just fine

I have the 20v Dewalt chainsaw. It's pretty darn good. I like it better than my buddie's 40v Greenworks.

What kind of battery life you getting?

I am repair shop manager at a large golf resort 3 soon to be 4 courses and much smaller turf practice areas. I can say Stihl has been very good to me. When I go to dealer I call ahead, as when I buy Backpack blowers, saws or trimmers it is 5-8 a a time. I have decided to pick up 4 Stihl electric chainsaws for my superintendents as 75% of limb work is smaller cleanup tasks and quiet cutting sure helps on a golf course. I have a mud truck guy on staff that sharpens the big tire lugs on his truck with one?!?! it works....Stihl for me. They have a nice discount/promotion going on right now.

Four months ago, Echo 58v. weed cutter SATISFIED. Now have the chainsaw and leaf blower so far GOOD, time will tell................. Jury''s still out. I hate ethanol ...... sick of cranking..... usually BAD gas lines..... Tut

Don't for get to pull the man card out of your handbag and hand it over when buying electric chainsaws and weed whackers. If it don't have a two smoke infernal combustion engine , it aint a proper chainsaw.

I have a Husqvarna electric saw which carry with me on any fishing, hunting and camping trip as well as just use around the yard. I have cut down and cut up quite a few dead trees even up to 25 inches in diameter with it. I am really surprised how well it works as long as you keep the chain sharp. The battery lasts longer than I expected and I'm very happy with it. I will be buying a string trimmer that uses the same battery that way I will have a spare battery.

I have a Milwaukee 18 volt. Great saw so far. I don't cut a load of fire wood at a time , but that is not what it is designed for. You can cut a half load on a battery. I keep mine on my equipment when clearing fence lines and such or clearing trails, cutting camp fire wood. So far it is durable and I will not be with out one again. Also I use vegetable oil in the chain oiler. Cuts down on the smell and staining, you can split a beef with it.

I got the dewalt as well. Great tool. No, you’re not gonna buck up a winter supply of firewood. But cut up fallen limb, clear a path, etc. No pull start and stop. Pick up when needed, set down when you don’t . No noise, no problems.

There are electric chainsaws (use a cord) and then battery operated chainsaws. Not sure what the OP is asking about but sounds like a electric cord required chainsaw, but not sure????

My is a cord required and is an tree eaten cutting machine. I like the on gas no battery charge, no batteries to replace, never runs out of power etc..

I bought a cheap elec saw from Walmart, worked great (not battery) only thing I found it would not use regular bar oil, I used 30w car oil, I think any car oil will work. Keep it sharp!!!! and let the saw do the work.

^ yep, I also use engine oil also. I beleive the chainsaw oil is to thick or and sticky.
