Skinning machine plans?

Skinning machine plans? - 10/07/19 06:55 AM

Anyone have any skinning machine plans they would be willing to share? I found an old topic on it here in the forums but it appears the pictures/plans were deleted. I’m looking at making a free standing machine not a floor or wall mounted one. And it needs to be tall enough to do coyotes, I really like adc free standing model, but I don’t think they will even ship to my area, and if so it would be super expensive. So if anyone has any plans or tips they would share that would be much appreciated. What material would be the best? What to use for the clamps? Vice grips? It appears those who use vice grips weld something to the clamps to grip better? Thank you.

Don’t have any actual plans but I built one a couple of years ago I will do some measuring later and try to get a picture or two. My telescopes from ten to twelve feet in height and the table is adjustable.

Mine is made so it bolts to a ceiling rafter it 10ft tall with a adjustable vice grip clamps for critters. It made out of 1 1/2 square tube 3/16 wall thickness. I use a cheap harbor freight hand winch for pulling. My friend built one similar and his is free standing. He made a 4 foot square base out of 3 inch c channel. If you got the height make it 11 or 12 foot with mine on big coyote I sit on a chair to finish out the head. The coyote head is about waist level for me and its a really bad angle on my back.

Shipping is a killer if you're outside the speedee delivery area. If you happen to know anyone within their zone close to you I can ship it to them very reasonably. I'm not sure where you are in Kansas but maybe if you're not far from Ne, there are a few guys on here I can ship it to.

Thanks for the replies and if anyone takes photos or measurements that would be a big help. Anyone else know what size of steel tubing they used? Is it just rebar welded to the vice grips for the clamps?

Had one built locally ,my nephew ddid the welding! I bought the lower clamp system from ADC! I felt that he was so generous to help with the build, shipping a complete system from him was cost prohibitive, so I was glad to buy from him. I built a stand alone that I use in my garage with a 9 foot ceiling but will telescope to 12 foot if I take it outside. Pics if you want them!

Have you thought about a horizontal skinning machine?

Most of the grippers on the vice grips that I've seen were pieces of rebar.

Would love to see pictures Miley, and would love dimensions if not too much to ask? Thanks for your help.

I built mine. 2 x 2 x 3/16 tube 6 foot 6 inches long, 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/8 tube 8 foot long. 24 inch long piece on top to make a 90° , I also put at bracket at a 45° to strengthen that corner, can make it 6-8 inches long. My base is 24" x 24". I also mounted my motor low and had a foot pedal wired by a retired electrician. I used the harbor freight winch on top before this setup with no problems.Hang the winch and lower the cable to determine the spot to mount the bracket with the vise grips. I highly recommend Vise Grips 1st, then Stanley brand( can get these at Walmart)
