Those boards are pretty much junk now with that mold on them.

You'd best have you a bonfire tonight, and then order some new boards !!! laugh

Straight distilled vinegar kills mold and mildew. Let sit for about 15 wipe off then wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel

Diluted bleach in a spray bottle and let it sit in the sun for a while. Kills the mold and gets the spots off the board.

Coonman220, please click the link in my previous post and read the responses on this exact question when you posted it 3 weeks ago. Lots of good responses in there. If you're worried about bleach smell, I wouldn't suggest using toilet bowl cleaner.

Read a hurricane related article about mold removal. Writer said the bleach just bleaches mold but does not always kill it. Forgot what they said to use. Make sure your mold doesn’t return in a few weeks.

Re: Clean off mold from boards question - 10/10/19 01:48 AM

Wipe them down with gasoline then dry them off with a match.

Seriously dude, you're overthinking this. Just wipe em down with some WD-40 and set them out in the sun on a sunny day to dry em out. Mold requires moisture, so you gotta get em good and dry. Gonna need a new dehumidifier or a good fan for your fur drying area.

It's not going to hurt coon hides if it gets on them.

Re: Clean off mold from boards question - 10/11/19 09:03 PM

Mold requires a food source and moisture. The food source is the wood, obviously you can't get rid of the food source. You have to get rid of the moisture and kill the mold. Get your boards dry somehow, like setting them out in the sun. Wipe them down with something that will kill the mold, diluted bleach will work fine. If you put them back where they were without taking care of the moisture problems in your storage area, plan on them getting moldy again.

It dry there now. Maybe a lil wipe with wd 40 an dry by fan. Would wd,40 evaporate fast ? Hurt anything to lay back on board pile the next day ? Someone say to never spray it on ignition lock. I did once. Dirt from trapping gum up, say it dont evaporate ? Supposed penetrate wood an kill mold

I wont disagree with that...but still. They do make a bunch of specialized stuff now that is pretty useful for certain things. They have dry ptfe, silicone, some other stuff that is wd40 brand. The original stuff is garbage but i use the specialized wd40 stuff for our bike chains. I use ballistol on squeeky hinges and things that need light lube.

Why not get a common paint scraper or other similar tool and scrape the moldy areas and then use soap and water or bleach and water to clean the boards good and then put outside in the wind to dry.
I have boards I store on the trusses of my garage and have had them for 30 plus years and mold is not an issue. Find dryer air places to store or to dry fur for that matter is your dehumidifier is not working.

I went though everthing yesterday that use for fur processing, used hydrogen peroxide, on mold, include some belly wedges an flesh beam, it came back in few spots the white after dry an did again, let air out overnite an stack piles today, it is in good place in winter or cold low humidity weather to dry hides but nothing can do in humid weather as no place else to store, the dehumdifer was a big expensive one at $100 to $200, not just to many years back, I doubt we'll be buy a new one anytime ever

I'd just like to point out that coonman220 asked what he should use to clean his boards on two separate posts, then chose an option that NOBODY suggested on this post, hydrogen peroxide. This could've been resolved after I posted the link to his first post about 3 posts into this thread. But at least it's good entertainment. We all need something to keep us busy until season starts.

Think about this for all you smart guys, even if dave doesn't choose to take your advice, he makes posts that are relevant to many people who read this forum. Thus when you answer his questions without the smartass replies, you are helping many other people who read and don't post. If there were anyone out there concerned about mold on their fleshing beams or wooden stretchers, they certainly have received a load of good advice here on it. (if they can sort through the trash) This of many of connman220's other posts as well,,, I bet you now know to avoid Chevy Colorados, cheap waders & employment through temp agencies,,, you know many bait recipes and the proper way to defrost a freezer. Cut the guy a break. He doesn't pick on anyone here.

I was going to use wd40 but after trying on a board. Decide not to, thought about bleach an water mix suggested but didn't like bleach smell or how long linger, was thinking peroxide would work an mellow smell an evaporate an dry fast

Re: Clean off mold from boards question - 10/14/19 07:36 PM

Straight household bleach outside+stiff acid brush+1 hour sun + repeat tomorrow- the bleach won't harm the wood and must soak into it before scrubbing with stiff brush, if mold is over 1/16" deep scrape with drywall scrapper or such before applying the bleach. as always wear protection and uncommon sense. If needed use garden hose to rinse while cleaning. Light sanding after thoroughly dry might be in order
