Cactus with “pears” fruit from the look of it some kind of choia possibly elk horn. Definitely not prickly pear.
There is lots of it in my area and it is Tasajillo Cactus. When you get one of those stickers in you it really hurts. It is sometimes hard on livestock when they get some stickers in them and they break off. It can then fester and sometimes cause infection.
Some call it Chollo Cholla, Turkey pear and I don't know why but a lot of people call it SlipSheds.

Cedar Hacker, when I was out at Bulletbox's turkey hunting in April, I shot a big Tom and ran through a bunch of those. I looked like a porcupine when I got back to Blake. They hurt like hades when you get poked by one for darn sure.
