41" King Salmon Reproduction - 10/28/19 02:00 PM

Finished painting this 41" King Salmon I nicknamed "Spot" because it took between 5 1/2 and 6 hours to put all the spots on it. Got it done Saturday and then delivered it all safe and sound yesterday.

Hate to tell you this at this late juncture, but King salmon spots are not that dense or that shape. Other than that it looks nice. Note for the next one.[Linked Image]

Hey Dirt,

Tooley River Strain Chinook Salmon from which all Great Lakes Salmon Originate

DO exhibit the spotting pattern which flipper56 painted on this mount.

I have seen probably around 4 to 5,000 Alaskan Chinook's in Bristol Bay,

and Kenai Peninsula and you are correct in they don't exhibit any where near

that many spots but Great Lakes Origin Chinooks whose broodstock

originally came from the Tooley River certainly do.

Nice, accurate paint job and mount for a great Lakes Chinook (king) salmon, flipper56.

I don't know much about salmon, but I think it looks fantastic.

I believe I am more than qualified to say Flipper 56 did a beautiful job putting that King together, it is excellent. I have painted on those darn spots so long that my air brush trigger finger would cramp up and I'd have to take numerous rest breaks. I once actually counted the spots I put on a medium-small Higgins Lake Lake Trout......over 3000! Can't imagine how many those whoppers had.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I still get stressed out painting someones trophy of a lifetime. I have had some bad things happen before when I was almost done or when the paint sagged when the clearcoat was applied. grin

Oh man, don't that statement bring back memories! If it wasn't the Paashe puking up a wonderful splatter, it was, as you've stated, the #*!#&*!!!! gloss top-coat "melting" those spots. Boy, am I ever happy I'm a RETIRED taxidermist!!!!!!!!
