VIRGINIA GOVERNOR TO INTRODUCE STRICT GUN CONTROL MEASURES AFTER DEMOCRATS WIN CONTROL OF STATE LEGISLATURE IN LOW-TURNOUT ELECTION
by Kevin Ryan

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) says he will reintroduce gun control measures in the upcoming legislative sessions now that Democrats have taken control of the state legislature.

"Getting rid of bump stocks, high volume magazines, red flag laws… These are common-sense pieces of legislation. I will introduce those again in January. And I'm convinced, with the majority now in the House and the Senate, they'll become law and because of that, Virginia will be safer."

Northam has also called for a ban on "assault weapons", a ban on suppressors, a limit on the number of firearms people can buy, expanded background checks, and increased age requirements, among other things.

Democrats took control of the Virginia House and Senate on Tuesday for the first time in more than 20 years. Northam and Democrats will now have the ability to pass strict gun control laws that Republicans have opposed.

Northam said today that Virginia residents have "had enough" of gun violence, and that sentiment was a contributing factor to the Democrats' victories. "People spoke yesterday."

Only about 33% of eligible voters turned out for yesterday’s election, down sharply from the 51% who voted in 2018 and the 40% who voted in the last off-year election in 2017.

1/3rd of the voters are “the people.”

“Time is money”, I guess the voters couldn’t be bothered so “you get what you pay for.”

A lesson to all. No matter what make sure get to the ballot box on election day. Laziness of voters, leads to tyranny.

In most cases the big cities determine who get elected as Gov. IMO

Looks to me like the 67% that couldn't be bothered by going to the polls determined the outcome.

Nearly 76% of Virginia’s population is urban so I’m not sure the 67% would have made that much difference.

Come on in and get them Governor Coonman. I dare you. If I have to be the poster boy for the revolt, so be it.

Be smart, your enthusiasm is too valuable to throw away on emotion.

What is your current master plan in The People's Republic of Maryland? Being from Southern Maryland like you are (beautiful country, friendly people) I am sure that you are feeling the same sort of pain which I am about to experience once Governor Coonman gets rolling.

Yes, it seems true in many cases. It's frustrating.

You won’t be a poster boy for a revolt. You’ll be posted all over the alphabet news as a criminal.

Yes, where I live I do experience the same frustrations, however it is also one of the last places that crime is going to increase with a gun confiscation. Robbery, rape and murder is going to rise in those same cities that voted the idiots in. The victims will demand something be done. Even though they are idiots they will get around to figuring out what changed.

Ultimately Strategies change as the situations change.

That is true in most states. Look at any state election map, in most cases the vast majority of the state is red with only the urban centers being blue. I wish the Republicans would get off their arses and push for a state electoral college system similar to the one in place for presidential elections.

So, your answer to my question is to do nothing? (You sure did use a lot of words to say just that, BTW.)
