Catch Phrase - "Tactical" - 11/08/19 08:05 PM

Seems like every thing nowadays is "tactical." The new selling point, attention grabber, and add on to make things seem better. Case in point- Today I was browsing through a flyer from Tractor Supply. For $29.99 (Save $20.00) you can buy a 4 pk., 14', 1000 lb. capacity "Tactical Tie Downs." What may I ask, makes a ratchet strap "Tactical?"

It's a small item to accomplish a larger task, which is one of the definitions of tactical.

Take a $10 backpack or $20 pair of pants. Call them tactical and charge twice as much.

Kind of like the "Space Age" reference that was all over tv when i was a kid. My science teacher used to joke. Space age means the late 50's early 60's. That's 20-30 year old technology lol.

But this stuff works my son bought a "tactical" flashlight at Lowes that was olive drab for 19.95. About a month or so later i seen a kit of four flashlights at lowes same exact flashlights for 19.95 for four of them. They were just red blue silver and black and not "tactical" green lol.

Qualifications for items to claim the title of "tactical"...

1) Must be flat black. (Parkerized is acceptable)

2) Can be mounted to a Pic rail.

3) Expensive

I just bought a belt pouch to put my new phone in, off Amazon. It's plain black ~ as is my phone. It happened to be the correct size. Had no velcro. And would go on my belt. Fine.

But; It too was probably described as " Tactical ". And, I'll bet it's available in at least three different cammo's, or olive drab. And is probable MOLLE compatible.

Wow. If I'd got a cammo one, I could've been a Ranger! Maybe a black one makes me a Ninja? crazy

A ratchet strap uses nylon webbing so it has to be tactical. Nylon webbing is a prerequisite for tactical-ness.

It is marketing, nothing more. Like dolphin free tuna, free range chicken, organic vegetables or certified fur.

Well if you guys could all just (Collaborate) and decide on the definition of (Tactical) and does that means the item is (Military Grade)...Then we'd all have another (Tool for our Tool Box)

I like "tactical" cut pants with the pockets, double knee and loose cut. Specifically the tru spec 24/7 series and the propper tactical dress shirts. What I don't care for is the almost universal use of summer weight ripstop polycotton. In winter it's worthless for staying warm and when new it's all coated in scotch guard so sweat doesn't wick and you're left even colder. The only other options are 100% cotton canvas which fades and wears terribly but is warmer.
Tru spec did make what they called range pants out of nyco twill which are near about perfect but of course they discontinued them.
