Looks like young of the year to me, unless your otters run smaller than ours. They are a bear to scrape, but the leather is tough so its hard to gouge a hole in it.

Looks like the trap was set horizontal and not vertical. Otter have a tendency to get those nose past the trigger before tripping the trap with a front leg which gets them so deep in the trap.

Trap was vertical but he must have hit it sideways. I think your right about hitting the trigger with the front foot. Lots of open space in a 330.
I catch a lot of otters in 330s like that no matter how I arrange the triggers. They don't putter around like beavers.
Same here. I sometimes will spread the trigger wires and run a thin fishing wire between them. That pretty much guarantees a neck or chest catch with the 330's. Less avoidance too.
