That 2% of no sales, 2% of what, the amount you put on your fur?

Glad to hear this, I’ve wanted to sell locally last couple years but usually don’t have my fur up and ready by January. Hopefully I’ll have enough to make the trip worthwhile!

Normally it is 2% of the price you place as a minimum.
if you want an $80 minimum on your coyote it costs you $1.60.

We figured with no NAFA pick up we may as try two auctions this year and see how it goes. It would at least give people another option.

Marty, with the terrible conditions, not going to be as many larger lots, and with closing of NAFA, going to be more 20-30's lots, 500-600 firm, could be 800 plus, by the calls

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 02:17 AM
It was a sale. I don't have any averages yet, but have a print out of everything so it will be coming. It seems like 1315 coyotes on the sale. Good coyotes sold better than last year and the junk struggled. We had more coyotes and I think everyone with good, well handled coyotes was happy. The top lot was 60 coyotes @ $205 US, # 2 lot 27 coyotes @ $190. Once I get some averages figured I will post them.
Thanks to everyone on the NDFTA board for putting this on. A special thanks to the non board member who helped out. We had a blizzard come through and it shut the SE quarter of the state down on Friday. I am sure there was fur, people wanted to bring that didn't get there. Hope to see you there in March for the next sale.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 03:04 AM
So is it safe to say the basis was considerably higher for coyotes?
Posted By: MJM
Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 03:13 AM
I will say higher than anything I have see listed here. Don't get the idea every coyote was a $100-150. There were coyotes no one bid on. But there was a reason and it was easy to see if you looked at the fur. There were coyotes that sold for $40, but I would have put them in the rock pile rather than skin them. Good coyotes were selling good, the junk was struggling.
ND FTA did you make it home? Or are you stuck in a white out on your phone? You made good time if you are home.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 03:50 AM
red mt Sitting and looking at may print out, it looks like 22 of the lots of finished coyotes, brought $100 or more. 14 lots brought under 100 and I would bet 2/3s of those were under $60. Coyotes that were not fleshed, coyotes with holes not sewn, and early as in Sept caught coyotes did not sell well. I felt over all the buyers and sellers were happy with what happened. The better the coyotes the happier they were.

Why would they...?
Sounds like you all had a good yoder day and glad you all got to do it, even with the crappy road conditions. Keep it going!!

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 05:22 AM
Thanks to NDFTA for another amazing sale. Lots of buyers and active bidding. I brought all of my 20 coyotes and decided to split them in 2 lots. 5 that had obvious problems and 15 that were really nice. The 5 sold for $30 a piece and the 15 brought $165 a piece. I wrote down prices for about 1,084 coyotes that sold and came up with about $123 average. Lots of well handled fur. Thanks again NDFTA and see you at the next auction!

Very impressive sale MJM imo
I do not know what sales will have come up with to break the mentality of poor handling .

I got a dumb question, if roads are so bad people can't make it back home HOW are the buyer's getting what they bought hauled back
to where ever they came from?
Glad to see a little light in the fur market even if it's just one specie's and selective at that.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 04:00 PM
They plow the road eventually.
I wasn't there J but I'd say it was as much a visibility issue, 30 plus mile an hour winds and new snow means zero vis. Just have to wait for the wind to go down.

Was there Chinese, Italians or other foreign buyers there, no but that’s not really how the fur business works. Even at Nafa and Fha very little fur is bought by the end user, most is bought by brokers who have orders or may not have orders and piece it out later. There are 4-6 individuals in North America that most coyotes go through before they get to the ruff makers and manufacturers

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 05:11 PM
The roads are all open this morning. Depending on the direction of travel, determined if you could move or not. East was not the way to be headed. I had to go north from the sale and you could have done that in any car. Going east or north or south then east was the problem. I think most the buyers were headed west. I think I can say all the buyers were middlemen. Most the buyers were from ND and MT if not all. They may have been buying for another buyer from else where. No one came from overseas.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 05:18 PM
I'll ask a different question. Thanks for answering BTW. Were most of the buyers furbuyers who also buy straight from producers or brokers?

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 06:06 PM
Here is what I cam up with for finished coyotes. I am not going to say it's 100% but it should be close enough to give you an ideal.
104 coyotes NS $38.56 avg offer
91 NO bid coyotes
1132 sold coyotes 128.57 average.
With the No sales and no bids added in 109.67 average
The no bids and NO sale coyotes were junk at best. It was easy to see the difference in what sold well and what didn't sell.

Thanks and I am sure the CO sale will be a good one, if not the best one you have had. At this point ND is not receiving shipped fur and I can't say we ever will. The ND fur auction was started for members of the ND Fur Takers, by the ND Fur Takers board. If you want to ship fur to a good local auction sent it to Monster Toms. I am sure he can give you their track record.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 06:35 PM
Given how strong the coyote market is, those 91 coyotes that were NO BID must have been really, really, really bad!
Were they carcass goods or did some one actually spend time putting them up?
Posted By: MJM
Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 06:56 PM
Wissmiss They were put up. One lot of NS coyotes had coyote pups in it that were the size of a large red fox. No fur, 100% puppy hair. On a quick glance it looked like there were 12 coyotes on the carcass is all. $18.33 avg on the carcass coyotes from what I can see. They were bad at best too. I have heard of $100 tops on carcass coyotes this year from buyers here.

Re: NDFTA Fur Auctions Two sales this year. - 01/19/20 09:13 PM
It appears that coyotes are 30% higher in price than last year at this sale. With the no bid coyotes and the really bad junk out the rest averaged $128.57 sounds like a $200 basis to me. Last years average for the same sale was $99.22, times 1.3 equals $128.98. That's pretty close to 30% higher than last year, same time, same sale. Without NAFA to send junk coyotes to this year they will be a tough sell.

Coon were cheap $5-11 It looks like there were 106 finished coon. Red fox a couple lots went for $20, but most in the 10-15 range.

Yep. I guess if I want to get my coon itch scratched and South Dakota has its nest predator bounty again this spring, I can get my $10 ave from the state, take the head for finished skulls and maybe cape a few nice ones for taxi mounts and get back north of $12, that seemingly "magic" new threshold for coon utopia. Don't even need a skinning machine...

I can see the top lot in the first picture ND FTA posted. But I know about where they were. Its not like you are going to look at a picture of a pile of coyotes and see the difference in why one lot went higher than the other unless it is the top lot and bottom lot.
JMF was not at the sale. He is not snaring much if any this year.
