Greatest rivalry in college sports, though one side hasn't been faring well in recent years.


A man dressed in scarlet and gray walks into an Ann Arbor sports bar with a small dog under his arm. He says to the bartender, "Hey, can I leave my dog here while I go to the Big Game?"

"A dog in my bar? No way."

"Aw, come on," the OSU fan says. "He's a special dog."

"In what way?" the bartender asks.

"He will watch the Game on TV with you, and when Ohio State scores, he'll walk up and down the bar on his hind legs.

"When Michigan scores, he'll walk up and down the bar on his front legs.

"And when OSU wins, he'll do backflips up and down the bar."

"Wow," says the bartender. "What does he do if Michigan wins?"

"I don't know," the Buckeye fan says. "He's only seven years old."

This is the weekend when family ties are broken in the state of Alabama. The reason why one must declare allegiance by the age of three if you're fortunate enough to be born in the Heart of Dixie.

National titles matter not this weekend. Any year we beat Auburn is a successful season.

That's funny. When I read the thread title I thought wow, the guy from Alaska is starting an Alabama/Auburn thread.

It's not as meaningful as some years because OSU has the Big 10 east locked up. The game between WI and MN is a rare situation for the Bog 10 West.

You must be joking. Your pitiful little game doesn't have the history of the OSU-Michigan rivalry, which goes back into the 19th Century. The Ohio versus Michigan rivalry goes back even further, to the actual boundary war between these two states.

But I'm not a fan to that new "THE Ohio State." What BS. No one ever said "the" when I went there. We referred to the school as "Ohio State" or "OSU."

But I guess OSU's official name includes "the," so maybe I'm wrong.

The Buckeyes are No. 1 once again.

Ohio State retakes the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings this week as the 28-17 win over Penn State was enough to vault the Buckeyes ahead of LSU.

The Buckeyes debuted at No. 1 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, but dropped down to No. 2 the following week after LSU's road victory over Alabama vaulted the Tigers into the top spot. This week, Ohio State reclaims the No. 1 ranking for the first time.

LSU falls to the No. 2 spot with Clemson and Georgia holding steady as the No. 3 and No. 4 teams. No. 5 Alabama and No. 6 Utah round out the top six.

The Buckeyes can add to their case for the top spot with a win over No. 13 Michigan this week, and can further bolster its playoff résumé with a win over either No. 8 Minnesota or No. 12 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game.

The Oregon pretender school didn't become "Oregon State University" until 1961, according to Wikipedia.

The Columbus, Ohio school adopted the name "Ohio State University" back to 1900.

And that answers the question of who is entitled to "OSU."

Once upon a time, there was a season when neither Ohio State nor Michigan
made a post-season bowl game. It seemed so unusual that the teams figured
there should be some sort of competition anyway. So they got together and
decided on a week-long ice-fishing competition.

On the first day, Ohio State caught 100 fish and Michigan caught none.

On the second day, Ohio State had caught 200 fish and Michigan still had
zero.

The Michigan coach, suspecting cheating, dressed one of his players in
scarlet and gray and sent him to the Ohio State camp to act as a spy. At

Bucky Badger is Wisconsin's mascot. Brutus Buckeye is Ohio State's mascot. Wisconsin beat Michigan this year.

The Ohio State Buckeyes/Michigan Wolverines game is tomorrow at noon. It should be a good game, even though Ohio State is pretty heavily favored.

Fifty years ago this game, the in Michigan upset OSU, which was then rated number one in the nation.

History won't repeat itself. We've been getting revenge in recent times.

With two losses, Michigan at best has a chance of being picked for some meaningless bowl. They would like nothing better than to spoil OSU's shot at a national championship. For the sake of the Big Ten, let's hope they fail.

James, Congratulations on yet another OSU lopsided victory. Us optimists continue to "hope" as you can imagine.
But then, I used to watch NFL football, and I was a Lions fan - last Super Bowl victory was 1957!

I watched about half of the game. Ohio State is rated where they should be. They are very well balanced as a team and maybe one of the better division 1 teams we have seen in a long, long time.

It is good our Badgers get a chance to play them one more time. playing great teams can make you learn more and improve even if things don't go the way one hopes they do.

As a UM alum, I was always told to steer clear of those buckeyes, but then I met Tom Miranda years ago from there and Tommie is a good head, so now I sorta like folks from Columbus

Ohio State is at another level this year. Not much chance Wisconsin can beat them. They look as good as any other in the top four as well.

Your probably right Bernie but I would not base any assessment of Wisconsin on last Saturday's game. The gophers seemed to have a 6 play offense and a very lethargic defense. It seemed the Wisconsin team knew and countered the things the gophers did on both sides of the ball perfectly. Gophers either telegraphed plays poorly or Wisconsin knew our signals?
The Gophers were out coached and outplated, Ohio state won't let that happen.

If the badgers played like that a couple weeks ago Iowa would have beat them and the Hawkeyes would be next in line to get stomped by OSU. The gophers only played three quality teams all year and they went 1 for 3.

The Hawkeyes played 4 ranked teams this year and went 1 for 4. OSU is on another level then the rest of the big ten. Should be a interesting playoff this year I am interested in who the number 4 team will be I'm kind of pulling for Utah

Not true about the Hawkeyes. Better go back and review the ranked teams on their schedule, without even checking I can think of five ranked teams they played and there may be more. And yes, just as I said earlier, OSU is on another level not just in the big 10 but in the top 4 teams in the nation.

Thus far Penn State is the only team the Buckeyes played this year that made the Buckeyes play a 4th quarter.
