no pics,so lets teach.

its way easier to catch a mink with 2 in legs when there's 4 in of snow on the ground.

now you go.

When asked what is my favorite beaver set, my reply is a set with a beaver in it.

One should master the Chinese handcuffs before they start trapping. grin

One should never put, and then forget to take out, a bottle of lure in a coat that will be washed by the 50% of the marital pair that will not think it's funny. wink

It is a wise man who readily admits how much he does not know about wild animals in spite of his lifelong experience of outwitting many of them.
In other words, one cannot learn anything if one believes that they know everything.

You catch most canines sniffing the post, not taking a leak on the post.

Trapping coyotes are like,,, hunting bull elk if think they are as smart as you are and you will catch more coyotes and take home more 6x6 bull elk .

From my journal 20 years ago- Never hang a marten to thaw over an open box of bisquick.

When it's time to quit learning, it's time for that dirt nap.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

If a canine location is good enough for one set it's good enough for two.

Without out failure there is no opportunity to learn, without learning there is no opportunity for improvement.

Steel on the ground always catches more fur that steel hanging around.

traps can't catch anything in the back of the truck or the furshed.

Don't worry about the competition, make them worry about you.

If you catch something in what seems like an odd location.....look around...there's a reason that animal was there....and there will be more.

Set where the critters show you they are, not where you think they should be.

Ten good sets on location ,will produce more than twenty in sucky spots.

Re: Trapping wisdoms - 11/30/19 02:16 AM

dont let anybody see you sniffing lure

its bad to run out of toilet paper in your pickup

dont forget to pull the back of your bibs and the shoulder straps out of the way, even if you remember the toilet paper. you probably forgot a change of clothes.

wiping your hands off with a paper towel will sterilize them so you can eat your sandwich. if you need a refresh on your chew just wipe your hand and fingers on your jeans

if you forget your cell phone thats the day your pick up will break down. 7 miles from a county road

fido does not stay in the yard no matter what fido's owner tells you.

Don't count your trapping money until the check clears.

The biggest beaver is always caught in the set the greatest distance from the truck.

Re: Trapping wisdoms - 11/30/19 03:15 AM

Give your traps time to work-checking sets too often is counterproductive.

Wear hip boots and the water will be up to your waist. Put on chest waders and the water won't reach your knees.

Trigger on the bottom saves the back fur.

Adjust that 220 with a stick next time--- from my notes.
