Getting old sucks

Getting old sucks - 12/08/19 02:40 PM

Been feeling more aches and pains the last year or so, hair in my beard turning gray, and yesterday a dang tooth snapped while I was eating lunch.

I'm really missing my younger days.

Yep old age to me is an attitude and a state of mind. I'm not so worry about getting old as I am about acting old. Lol Just can't let that od man in.

When I retired 10 years ago at age 62, I jokingly told the doctor if you give 10 good years I’ll be happy. He said 10 years from now you’ll ask for 10 more years. He was right.

Old, is how old you feel, not your actual age. So, being old and feeling old are two different animals. I'm only in my 50's and have multiple herniated disk, both cervical and lumbar. A botched surgery that left me worse. I have osteoarthritis and RA. Accompanied with a awesome kicker of Sarcoidosis. I feel like I got hit by a bus every waking moment, but I keep digging. I feel old, but I ain't old, I hope to be old lol. I keep digging because I hope I can be of use to someone, my babies, my siblings and my friends. Yes, getting older can suck but when you find yourself face planted in a crick bank, you pull yourself up, dust yourself off and keep moving forward. Getting old or feeling old, doesn't mean you gotta be a sissy. I'll be in the woods again.

Last time I got my hair cut I told my barber when she was done that she should sweep the floor between customers because all the hair on the floor was gray. Couldn't have been mine.

I'm only 60, just a sprout in this thread, but getting older changes things.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/08/19 09:25 PM

People can discount this, but I pray, "I am renewed every day in the Word of the Lord", and I read the Bible and it does help me not to look like too many other people I know.

As a humorous note, my cousin Richard was at the store awhile back and said, "I walk out and see this old woman waving at me, and I wonder who the heck is that? Then I realized, "Oh d*mn!!! I graduated with that woman".

had my testosterone tested years ago and it was low. insurance wouldn't pay, then next Dr. down the road a few years later ,said have to see a specialist for more test, more money it was still low and was making me tired and way less "Active"
so at 62 i finally said to him "you just want me to just fad into oblivion?? "
Long short, got same meds under the counter and WoW is all i can say. feeling like a rutting buck again.
not saying for the rest of you but old age sometime need a boost.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 05:34 PM

I will be 72 in 11 days, if old age was just aches and pains one could just muddle through and complain. For me it is a noticeable loss of strength, especially in the upper body, forearms hands and fingers, along with flexibility. I can no longer just plop down quickly and reach in a push up and set a trap and spring up and move on. I need to replace my feet etc. etc. The one bright spot I still see is after a week or so I still see some improvement which means all is not lost. Years ago one enjoyed the outcomes, I am learning more each day about enjoying the journey.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 05:41 PM

This morning on the trapline I was busy moving sets under water in runs anticipating the big freezup coming this week. As I move up and down the ditch banks with my walking stick sometimes I have to kneel first and use my stick to stand up. It seems that my mind knows what I want to do but there is a disconnect with my body. I am like my truck except my physical "check engine" light is on.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 05:50 PM

I went to the Doc a few months ago because I was feeling dizzy when I first woke up. He just said, "well, you are 83 years old." I had been going to him for years. Not any more!! New Doc. Feeling much better now.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

If you're not getting older then you're dead. That would probably suck worse.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 07:54 PM

I am 33 so no horse in the race, but my opa is 93 and lives on his own still.

Even at 33 though things do tick me off. Like why does the barber always have to use a black apron?? Shows grey like crazy! My hair is still more black than grey, but an optimistic barber would use a grey apron!

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 09:27 PM

In the off season everyone should attempt to do some type of strength training. Whether it's with weights, cutting and stacking wood, some deep knee bends(or only half way), etc. Whatever works for you. The older one gets, the quicker we loose our normal everyday strength. All of this keeps as many muscles as possible still working like they used too. The slow decrease of testosterone as we age is a matter of fact. Ya just have to fight back.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 09:52 PM

Getting old really sucks for people who refuse to make lifestyle changes that would improve their overall health.

Most of us would be in much better health if we wore out more shoes and used less gas.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 10:20 PM

One thing I found about getting old is you never know what ache or pain you will have next. They come and go at a rapid rate. Actually they come at a rapid rate and go at a much slower rate.

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 10:40 PM

I have found that it is difficult to not feel old when you have to use a cane in civilization, and trekking poles when off road. Bone spur in my back affected my sciatic nerve clear to my foot. I have to wear a brace to keep from tripping over my toes. I have been fortunate to kill a doe in archery and a buck with rifle this year.No trapping last year, but I hope to set some fisher and cat sets this year if the snow doesn't get too deep. Old age sure can slow a man down!

Re: Getting old sucks - 12/09/19 10:46 PM

I'm not really that old i'm 65 I do have a lot of aches and pains especially back pain and joints, but I know one thing that driveway is hard as heck, I tripped over my hitch on the truck and landed hard. I layed there a few minutes and had a heck of a time getting up. I even looked around the neighborhood to see if anyone saw me lol

It is like I have said before. "Getting old was fun. It was after I made the trip I started to have my problems".
