Brakes?

The other day I noticed that rather suddenly..my brakes were more than a 'little' spongey. Got the truck stopped & checked underneath as well as the reservoir under the hood. Fluid was a bit low & the inner part of the passenger rear wheel was a bit wet. I was thinking it was a bad wheel cylinder. Mechanic confirmed it & replaced the wheel cylinder along with about 4' of brakeline. Brakes work fine but the warning light has never gone off. He tried several ways to reset it but had no luck. Is this something that he could use a scan tool to reset? Would disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes & reconnecting work? Or would I be better off just standing there & rubbing my tummy, patting my head, turning my head to the left & coughing, while scratching my danglies at the same time?!

There’s probably something wrong with one of the other brakes as well.

Maybe the lines need another bleeding.

mine wouldn't go off until i disconeccted the battery for a minute.

Didn't say the brand but know on some of he older Ford trucks had to break open the other line and apply the brakes to recenter the switch.

Usually you just clear the code with a scan tool if he has done that and the light is just coming back on you might have another issue or just a bad sensor

Has he used a scan tool to check what code is causing the light to come on

Oops...sorry about no ID on the truck. '93 Chevy 1/2 ton, Not 4x4, 4.3L engine(262?). I was called & told truck was ready. When I saw the warning lights were still on I got the mechanic to come back outside & check it out again. He bled the brakes 2 more times & still the warning light was on. He said to drive it & it might reset in a day or 2. That was on Thursday. Will take it back Monday & see if he will try to clear the code with scan tool. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll see if I can disconnect the battery here shortly & see it that does it.

Check emerg brake pedal to make sure its fully released . Only takes a couple of clicks to pop the red brake warn light on

There is likely a fluid level sensor in your master cylinder. It's just a float that turns the light on when it gets low enough. Look at your master cylinder and see if there's an electrical connector on it. If so, you have a level sensor. It's likely stuck at the bottom still. Fluid tends to get nasty in the he master cylinder reservoir, and when the float goes down, it sticks. Sometimes you can bang on the reservoir and get it to come up, but usually you have to stick a pick or something similar in there and dig it up.

The light is controlled by a switch on the proportioning valve. Odds are with the loss of pressure when the wheel cylinder leaked, the valve in the proportioning valve shifted to stop or reduce the pressure to the rear brakes in an attempt to keep the front brakes working.

What happens alot of time is once the leak is repaired the valve sticks and doesnt like to return to its normal position. The valve actuates the switch that turns on the brake light on the dash. So until there is enough pressure applied to the rear brake sytem to reset the valve the light will stay on.

I've had to "stomp" the brake peddle on many vehicles to re-center the valve. If that doesn't do it, do like Drifter said and crack the front open and push on the brakes. Stomping usually works tho.
