Re: Xmas Fisher - 12/23/19 10:55 PM

after releasing a dozen or so over the years,it was my goal to tag one this year.doin your homework on them is big in my eyes.this one had been checking out 2 porky trees but was smart enough not to go in them.

Love fisher trapping....Congrats. But they lowered our take to just 2....why bother I say....let them reproduce...I have caught plenty over the years.

Re: Xmas Fisher - 12/24/19 01:23 PM

Way to go! By the size of his head male, right? I didn't buy a tag this year. I know where they are even over here in Erie and Crawford county. Problem for me is laziness. Both 30 minute drives and the properties i can hunt dont allow trapping. Too lazy to try to get permission on adjacent properties. One i can trap on is a good 50 minute drive or dry roads. Also with our potential for lake effect snow depth, i cant park off the side of the road sometimes. Anyway nice cat.

I'm sure we have otters in the French Creek system in Erie Co, but I've never seen one. 1B doesn't have an otter season yet.

Re: Xmas Fisher - 12/24/19 03:52 PM

It could ber the off spring of a NH fisher, I sold them a bunch of live ones 20 something years ago for the reintroduction down there. Our limit now is 2, so I don't bother with them and the value is like 30 dollars male or female. Not worth the effort and I have caught my share over the years, always limited out early.

It was nice when the limit was 15....years ago....my best season was 11 fisher. And we only have the month of December to get them.

I have 2 left to catch and haven't saw or looked for sign yet. And more than a month of season left too.

Re: Xmas Fisher - 12/24/19 07:57 PM

Congratulations, Where I live we do not have a bag limit on them and they are numerous, caught 10 this past season. Your lucky your season opens when they are prime.
Here in northern NY the season closes ,(Nov 30 in some units and Dec 10 in other units) when it should be opening.
