I believe it is called a Saiga, built on that notable German invention of the M 44 which became the AK 47 once the communists stole German stamped metal technology. Pleasant Chicom variable 4 plex for jewelry, bi pod, military sling and cheek riser pad. I would have preferred an American 760 in 223, but America no longer produces what people want. I feed the Asian antelope silver bear 55 grain soft points. It is a lovely food group for a coyote diet.

I don't own a .22-250 yet but if I did I'd own a Remington 788 like what Bock has pictured they have a special place in my heart as that was a good friend of mine's favorite caliber and rifle.

Remington Model 700, laminated stock, bull barrel 26". Shoots a tight group.

called the 300 yard trap back in the day when 4 foxes paid for it, and the rest is history.

BoCo do you put a old gel pac for moisture in the case when you put it away?

Re: 22-250 - 12/28/19 05:12 AM

I don't store it in the case 50,in a gun cabinet.
All the guns in the gun cabinet that are retired get cleaned and oiled twice a year.
I am going to start selling some soon.Got too many I don't use anymore that should go to someone who wants to shoot them.

Re: 22-250 - 12/28/19 05:53 AM

I have many different calibers of rifles, but my old favorite is a Remington 788 in a 22-250. In fact I have 2 but only use the one for varmint hunting. Have a Tasco world class 3X9 on the one I use and a Bushnell on the other. Really good and very accurate guns. I do believe if I remember right I paid $119 for my first one, on sale at a Gibson store grand opening..... back in about 1976 or so.

Remington 788. Boyds laminated stock. Leupold VXI in 4x12. Harris bipod. It's a bit hefty but just fine for the woodchuck fields.

Same gun but mine wears a weaver 3X9 or sometimes a vortex with higher mag depending if I am headed west or shooting locally

Very accurate gun don’t really shoot it much as most shots here are only 50 to 75 yards long with a few 100 or more so I mostly use a 223 but when I bought it the price was way to attractive to be pass up

I’m jealous of all you guys that have the 788’s they hold a special spot in my heart used one of my gpas (308) growing up to kill several deer until I bought my own rifle. I own a newer Ruger m-77 with a vortex 4x12x40

Re: 22-250 - 12/28/19 04:40 PM

Ive got a browning medallion that likes 50gr nosler ballistic tips. Scary accurate when shooting the starting load of 4320. Group opens up a little when loading through to max and right at max closes back to almost as tight as the starting load. I've also loaded 50gr Barnes TSX bullets with awesome results on deer and pigs.
Posted By: Tactical.20

Re: 22-250 - 12/28/19 04:45 PM

I used 4320 in my .223, worked great, 55gr noslers knocked down instantly almost 100% of coyote hit in head, neck or ribs

I have a Rem 788 in .222 but my 22-250 is a browning B-78. [Linked Image]

It will put 5 Sierra 55 gr HPs in 1/2 inch at 100 yds if you let it cool between shots. The 55 gr vmax tumbles because the extra length from the plastic tip isn't stabilized by the Brownings twist rate. That was a head scratcher for me until someone on here clued me in (cmcf I think).

Bergara HMR 22-250 smoothest action I ever had on a production gun.

Re: 22-250 - 12/28/19 06:36 PM

Started with a 700 Remington 222 with a 2x7 Leupold scope, then moved up to a 700 Remington 22-250 with a Weaver 10x scope. Many groundhog were eliminated with them back in the 60's & 70's.

I love those highwall action rifles I have a browning Rocky Mountain elk foundation commutative in 45/70 almost to pretty to shoot but it also shoots to good not to

I would love to have one in either 223/ 22 250 or 220 swift as well

I do have a Winchester low wall in 22 mag that shoots amazingly well

If I could figure out how to post pictures I would

Re: 22-250 - 12/29/19 12:30 AM

I checked on Gun Broker and there are several ( 788 Remingtons) on their right now. One even looks like it still has the universal scope they came with back in the mid 70s. I might just have to get in on bidding on a 788 in a 223.... just to have one !!

What are they selling for-around $400?

I bought my 788 22-250 in 1973 at Coast to Coast for 113.00 with a 4X Universal scope. And I wish I knew how many animals it has shot. They are very good shooting rifles.

Predator action, jewel trigger, bartlein 1-7.7 varmint barrel, in a manners t2a stock. Shooting 80gr bergers in front of imr 4350.

Its hard to beat a Rem 788 in any caliber, I've had several, never had one picky about any load you put through it.

Re: 22-250 - 12/29/19 02:45 AM

Mine is an old Ruger tang safety like yours with a varmit barrel. Tack driver. Mine shoots the Hornady 52 gr BTHP very well. Loaded some 60 gr Nosler Partitions this year and have killed 3 does. All behind the shoulder pass through shots. Love my 22-250

Re: 22-250 - 12/29/19 03:18 AM

I have two. Both savages. A model 12 with a 26" stainless fluted barrel, choate stock, pre acu-trigger. The thing loves h380 with a 55 gr blitzking. I have put four shots in less than an inch at 300 yards with it. Average was 1.5 inches. Second is a sav mod 11 sporter. I did not tinker with this one as much but I did not have any trouble getting half inch groups with it. 36 gr barnes and 55 gr blitzkings did very well. The 45 gr tsx did put a large doe in the freezer for me. Not much of a blood trail so I went back to 30+ cals for deer.
