Fencing- Stihl bt 131

Anyone have a hands on review of this auger? I know these type of augers are often times a handful, and I’ve been around some of the farmstore brands in the past- most of which I’ve been disappointed in- but according to the price tag the Stihl is 2-3 times the machine that they would have been.

Most of our digging is relatively soft ground and posthole diggers usually aren’t awful to use, but after the flooding that we had in our area a couple times this year there is going to be a pile of fence to get fixed as soon as the frost is out and I’m mostly looking for a way to speed things up.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

skidsteer with auger is faster - can also push most posts in - also have the post pounders that will pound up to a 6 inch pipe post in the ground

I've never used the sthil auger but those 4 handled augers will beat you up.

Best is an auger on a skid steer. Second best is an auger on a three point hitch.

If you are going to do this with a hand operated auger, look at the general 660. I haven't used this brand but have used something similar (but can't remember the brand). It does not beat you up nearly as much as the hand held augers.

I understand that a skid steer is the easiest, and that is what I use for all new fence projects- but when it comes to fixing fence in large pastures it just isn’t practical to drag a skid steer around (especially with a one man operation) for a handful of posts here and there-you also wouldn’t be able to trailer it along many of the fence lines even if you wanted.

A small pickup box trailer of posts behind the sxs is about as slick as it can get for covering distances

Ive got a hydraulic one man auger that is just a big teter totter looking thing. Bought it from a rental company used works good if theres not lots of rocks. I assume your setting wood posts?
