Got my moose

Got my moose - 01/09/20 05:42 PM

Got drawn for the 3rd time for a moose permit in 2019.First 2 times were bull tags. This time was a cow tag.My father also got drawn for a cow moose tag in the same zone and week.I shot mine first slowing it down and let my wife(sub permite)finish it off with a nice double lung shot when it finally turned broadside.Next thing we know her last years cow moose stepped out with my father getting his moose as well. All happened quick but we did alot of scouting to get into the right area.

I would never get that lucky to shoot something that big, so close to a road. Nice job!

That's got to be the easiest moose butcher ever. Good for you.

My favorite big game to eat... and lots of it.

In the late 70's my two buddies and I lived off of a moose for a winter in Montana.... that and a bunch of mallards, but we had to get creative with the moose after a while. Fortunately most of it was burger.

Enjoy.

Surprised to see you can harvest cows, population must be doing quite well? Congrats on the moose, I would gladly trade the beef in my freezer for one.

The dept. revamped how they did their moose counts and a few years back decided we had twice as many moose as they formerly thought. Close to seventy thousand at the time. Then we had a problem with winter ticks. I think the population was cut in half in my area. Moose normally winter much better than the deer but these moose came through looking like they were barely going to make it. [Linked Image]
