My favorite pie is whichever one is in front of me at the time. The first bear I killed I rendered a couple gallons of lard out of the fat. I gave it to my Mom and told her how I read that the most esteemed pastry chefs the world over perfered bear lard for baking over all others. Of course within a couple days she had two apple pies on the counter baked with bear lard. I told her how good the pie was, she answered, " no, I can taste the bear in it". She never baked with bear lard again. But I had boot grease for several years. I still use that quote when I don't like something, but cant explain exactly why.

My favorite pie is pecan. I also like a good, not overly spiced pumpkin pie. Fresh cherry, black raspberry and hybrids of the 2 from our farm are very good too. Apple pie is great as well. I think the only pies I have not liked were elderberry, with the seeds left in and key lime.

Great Grandmas rhubarb custard hands down. I am finally able to duplicate her taste after many years of trying. They always seem to hold one little ingredient back that makes a world of difference

Anybody remember the pie scene from the movie life? Bullets whizzing past Martin Lawrence as he sprinted for the Fresh hot pie? Then he ate it while it was still hot before the guards got him?
