Who shoots high FOC arrows?

Any bowhunters out there in trapperman land shoot high FOC arrow set ups. For those that may not know FOC or front of center means that you have more weight to the front end of the arrow. I have been watching some videos about shooting heavy arrow setups with 20% plus FOC and its pretty interesting.

I shoot them and have for 12 years.I started off with 20 % and gradually worked up to 35 %.That is my current setup.I didn't notice a lot of gain till I got in the mid-20's.30% there were impressive gains,35%,even more.My arrows are over 700 grs,out of 50#-53# recurves.The weight helps with penetration,the high FOC,even more.Great wind bucking abilities,as well.First priority is having them very well tuned.It takes a carbon shaft about two spine groups heavier than your bow likes with normal weight tips,then adding front end weight till you reach tune.It is far more doable with recurves and long bows than compounds.Comp o unds often don't need the help and it is hard to find stiff enough shafts to work for them without getting rediculously heavy arrows and not real high FOC,like I am talking about.

I had never heard of it until I was watching a video by The Hunting Public where they interviewed a guy who goes by Ranch Fairy on youtube and high FOC is his thing. He has done a lot of testing and it is pretty eye opening to see. He shoots arrows from 550 to 1000 grains.

It's fun to tinker but I've never built an arrow for it and never had a problem with penetration. Maybe when I get older and have to reduce my draw weight.

I have mentioned it a time or three on here and not much response.
I think it's even more important in a crossbow bolt.
Ever take notice to the brass insert in better bolts?

I just watched the video. I shoot a "skeet load" arrow as he calls it. I only hunt whitetail. If I hunted pigs like he was in the video, I would beef up my set up for sure.

I have been binge watching his stuff its very interesting. My current arrow set up barely gets to 380 grains. I am going to tinker with arrows and see what happens. He is also a promoter of cut on contact broadheads, especially single bevel heads. Watch the video he has that shows the difference in how a deer runs away when shot with an expandable broadhead and their reaction when hit with a high FOC arrow and a cut on contact head.

He has my brain working and its gonna cost me some money to experiment.

I'm shooting a 440 grain arrow at 311 FPS, I dont really worry about penetration from that bow. I have a Kohonnah longbow in the mail on the way so I will be building heavy arrows for that bow and will probably be shooting much heavier broadheads to get a higher FOC.

Single bevel heads have been discussed for at least 25 years. Initial testing was done in Africa on big game there.
As stated by Taxi, you will get better results with traditional bows than compounds. With that said, I have always used brass inserts (pick the weight you want) in carbon arrows for compound shooting.
Cut on contact heads work well with any setup.

Went back to aluminum, havent had issues ever. Keep it simple. This crap has flooded the trad community. Bunch of wheel guys trying to be fancy. Maybe the science works most of the time but I've killed enough critters to know light and fast works less than heavy and slow.

500 grains total weight, 50 grain insert and 150 grain COC broadhead comes out to 17% FOC. Heavier arrows with higher FOC tune easier, stabilize faster, and penetrate like crazy.

I couldn't remember last night the guy that started the single bevel interest, Ed Ashby, also FOC. He wrote a lot of articles on the topic. I'm sure it can be found on the web. Possibly old Traditional Archery issues have some information.

He has started the Ashby Bowhunting Foundation. Havent read his stuff yet.
