Very cool!! Took a while for me to reassemble the parts in my mind looking at the final picture but looks like a great design. How long till you had the kinks worked out like the adjustment screw? I am always amazed by trap designers.

Good deal

I made 12 with sliding back door for easy baiting and cross latch. The back door was beveled on bottom to let curious skonks smell the bait before committing to the front.

How do you bait? Through the trap?

Re: build a skunk trap - 02/13/20 10:59 PM

Real cold snap this week put me in the shop next to the stove. Discovered I had enough stuff to build a skunk trap. Very simple to do but learned a bunch in making it. May just have to build a few more but may redesign the back end to make baiting it easier. Thanks for the plans TD! [Linked Image]

Very nice, but may I suggest you relocate the carry handle to the center balance point to make it easier to carry.

Been known to build a few myself. None of that one or two at time stuff though!

It is, atleast till there's a skunk in it.

Ya, first one is to figure out how it goes together and work out any bugs. Ordered material to make a bunch more.

Has anyone drilled holes midway along the side should one decide to dispatch? Would have to be far enough away from the trigger mechanism to prevent t them from reaching in and tripping the trap.

Ok I still don't understand how it fires I know he steps on the pan and the door closes but that's about it.i have a few of the wire cage types but I haven't ever figured out how these work.

the door sits on top of pipe , an rod is push forward when skunk steps on pan, an rod pushes door off edge of pipe smile

Re: build a skunk trap - 02/14/20 10:58 PM

Ok I get that now but how does the rod move forward

The rod hugs the top of the PVC and runs back to the pan.

The bait pan looks something like this. I haven't installed this one in the PVC yet but it should give you an idea how everything goes together.
