Old timer I worked for shot himself in the leg when he was a boy. Never told a soul...until 3 days later and infection set in and the real pain started. He was afraid his Dad was gonna kill him, and he about did.

Let's hope they find the idiot responsible for this. Always my fear during gun deer season while trapping to be shot by some inebriated moron even though I've got blaze orange on from waist up.

Says the shooter was pulling a sled. Sounds like another trapper either fighting over a territory or suspected theft.

Maybe I am missing something, but did he not have any transportation other than walking on his trapline during below zero weather? Two days walking?

About 4 years ago there was 2 old guys beaver trapping together, when one of them thought the other was a beaver and shot and killed him.
I don’t fully understand that one.

To shoot a guy is bad enough but to leave him there is just crazy.

Probably a guy trapping on another trappers ground.
The only thing that comes close to that in the north is getting caught with another guys woman.

X2

How did he get out there with all his traps in the first place?

I don't find that unusual at all. You could walk for a week from my place and never reach help whether you were wounded or not.

But the article says he was "visiting" the area. Maybe he was trapping where he shouldn't have been. Still doesn't justify being shot.

White, I just thought it was unusual someone would set up a trapline that long on foot. But reading it again, I see the distance from town was only a few kilometers.

TrappersReport has had that story for 4 days...

https://www.trappersreport.com/story/Trapper-SHOT-by-man-on-snowmobile

... Everyone please add your stories. Let's make a Trapping News Site. I live in NYC.... They're going to take this all away from us, including hunting, including making things "Forever wild," including shaming you on the street corner soon with "I'm not against wild fur but do You really need that?" Let's shame Them with truth.

Interesting walked for about 50 hrs./2 days and he was on foot to start with. Not reported missing before that? Presumably he was on day walks from town to go to his traps. Something odd about not being reported missing if that is the case. Would be nice to see what the police finally conclude about this whole thing.
