Im going to the shooting range. I don't watch that crap. like another said anti gun and cry babies. If it sprinkles they don't race! I raced that track in the pouring rain and it was on 2 wheels. Not 4 with all the safety stuff they have now. I just never could get into it. THey just follow each other around till the end and then start to race.

At least Indy/Formula cars put on RAIN tires and go for.
I enjoy watching racing in all forms. And It’s been a long time, 19 years since I really watched a NASCAR race. I plan to watch today.
I like Truex for the win in the race today.
I don’t really have a favorite driver or team right now, since it has been forever. I just hope everyone has a good competitive race today.
I really quit watching after Earnhardt died, and I’ll add that I think the restrictor plates and some of the other rule changes took something away from the race.
Lately I’ve really had the itch to watch, so here I am.
One of the cool things about plate racing is even the small underfunded teams have a real shot at winning.
Which puts all the cars in a giant bunch and all it takes is one snot nosed rookie or less experienced driver to screw up and wreck out half the field. But hey it makes for tv ratings and thats all Nascar cares about. It needs to go back to the old days where the good teams had the good drivers and they were in the lead pack and the rest were down multiple laps and out of the way.
Dale Sr. Is probably rolling over in his grave the way Nascar has turned out. Although it sure would be great to hear his opinion of the mamby pamby pretty boys that drive today.
I was told that this Is the first time a president has been the grand marshal.
He should walk out with an AR across his chest. All the NASCAR higher ups would pass out. I guess having the President be the Grand Marshal is NASCARs way to try to gain TV viewers after their anti gun stance.
I find watching a race super boring, but I could pore over one of those cars for hours. Those cars are an engineering marvel. I do take the kids to the local dirt track once a year, they do fireworks around Independence day, and we like the noise and smells and crashes. No idea really what's going on in the races, but it's fun to go.
Half the field multiple laps down and out of the way would be pretty boring.
I prefer to see the best drivers racing. Not 40 cars running bumper to bumper and door to door hoping the guy next to or in front of you doesnt get the hiccups and cause a 40 car crash. I want to watch racing when if I am watching Nascar, if I want to see a demo derby I will go to the local fairgrounds.
Unless they just changed the rules, they don't run restrictor plates. Took then away last season I do miss the old days though But with good friends and good food it makes for a great time. And I'll pick #48 for the win with the #9 pushing him

You are correct - restrictor plates are gone. They now use tapered spacers instead, but the end result is the same restricted horsepower.

Started reading your post and see it's been 19 years and thought yep Earnhardt fan like me then read further and see it confirmed. I tried a couple times and it's just not there anymore.
Mike Harmon Racing has announced that the No. 47 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Joe Nemechek will carrying the Patriotic colors of ‘TRUMP / PENCE 2020’ in the NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener NASCAR Racing Experience 300 at Daytona International Speedway on February 15.

If you have not been watching this race , now is the time to tune in. They just had a big crash , a lot of cars out. 16 laps left in the race , currently under a red flag.
This should be a good battle to the finish once they get back to racing.
Remember watching Sr's wreck, and thinking it didn't look that bad. This one sure looked worse, hoping for the best.
Absolutely. This wreck was a lot worse as far as multiple impacts although technology and the head restraint full face helmets might make a difference.
Remember when he started racing cup series, and thinking this guy is the future of nascar. Highly educated guys who really understand what is going on with the car.
Micheal Waltrip hit the end of the wall down at Bristol that time, blew all the sheet metal off the car you could hardly tell what was left ever was a car.
The way Newman's driver's side cage was crushed I thought for sure he was gone, lucky lucky lucky.
The worst wreck IMO was Geoff Bodine's Truck crash at Daytona many years ago. Only divine intervention kept him alive. No way he should have lived through that crash but he did.
The way they handled the wreck and the amount of time they took to get him out, makes you wonder what exactly was going on. The whole process seems strange and disorganized. Unless they were talking to him the entire time, which if that was the case at least they could have reported him as not dead anyway.

I would assume it took a lot of cutting to get him out of that twisted mess of steel. It's hard enough to get out when the car isn't wrecked. They won't make any sort of announcement until the Dr determines what's going on. I wonder if he was in and out of conciseness, they've yet to say what his injuries were.

They did say that the part of the roll cage over his head was badly crushed. That explains a lot. Took a long time to get him out because of that. I would not doubt the doctors after knowing what he went through and maybe seeing the footage of the crash , checked him over THOROUGHLY for anything possible. If I was a doctor there , I know I would be reluctant to give any early prognosis or even let him leave without every possibility of injuries checked and double checked. So glad to see him walking out of that hospital.
I am glad to see that Ryan is OK. And I just hope that this latest info and photo are correct. It seems kind of strange that he was listed as in "Serious Condition" less than 48 hours ago. "Serious Condition" is one level below "Critical Condition". Followed by Stable Condition and then Fair Condition. Has anyone seen any current interviews or a frontal photo of Ryan leaving the hospital?
I am thinking he had a collapsed lung. Which would have had him in serious condition. and usually leads to a somewhat speedy recovery. I doubt head injuries as he was talking all along as far as I can tell. no apparent serious spinal or shoulder injuries either.
I have taken many race drivers from their cars and although I am no doctor by any means, if you do your job right, you have a good idea as to what is wrong with them. I have had some who refused treatment at a scene then either collapsed or had complications that made them need or get treatment later. Others were critical at the time of accident, then were fine within days. The human body can take a heck of a lot of punishment and still recover.
As far as the roll cage collapsing, they would have removed it within 2-3 minutes. Nothing, and I mean nothing stops those guys from gaining access to a driver. Those guys are trained beyond belief. An entire race car can be dismantled in under ten minutes if need be. During my training it was being decided on which was best, to take seat and all or just the driver with a KED or short back board. At that time we were taught to make the decision on a case by case scenario. It didn't appear they took the seat in this incident. Which pretty much tells me he was either not breathing or he was talking to the rescue guys.
I can tell ya this too. Lajoy was just as lucky as Newman. Catching a 3500 lb chunk of steel in your windshield at 190mph is never a good day.
