Stop watching it and live your own life instead of watching others live theirs.

Why is it wrong? If they are foolish enough to pay that then why wouldn't he agree? I would do it for half that but no one asked me.

Your employer doesn't think your worth as much as Tony's thinks he is. Maybe you took the wrong career path. Lol. Should applied yourself more on the high school varsity team. Bahahaha. Seriously though. The money they players and announces get(most of it) comes from the tv contracts. If you can convince most the country to stop watching, their pay will go down substantially. Tony has a lot of money, but.he traded his body for it. How many years till the CTE kicks in.

Re: why i hate sports - 02/29/20 01:51 PM

I myself do not like sports I played high school football and enjoyed it very much and because of it learned alot of discipline. I also agree with dahlgren but I can tell you this if someone wanted to pay me a million a season to trap because the population wanted to see it and would tune in every Sunday. Ok it's a no brainier yes they are some people out there that would not take the money they are some that would take it and it would ruin them and then there are those that would do nothing but good with it. This is life this is how it has always been since the bite of the fruit and how it will be I see people in two groups those that go out and make their own adventures and tell stories about them and those that live their adventures through other people's adventures and tell stories about them. Myself I chose to be a adventure maker and tell my story. (That's more words I've spoken since I knowed ya).

I will agree that it is completely ridiculous but who's to say if it's wrong or not?

I will never understand why tens of millions of folks across this nation idolize and make heroes out of guys good at throwing balls through hoops or or throwing/hitting/kicking/catching small balls or pucks or pigskins.

I get that there are plenty of normal folks that find that stuff interesting. But I also know there are plenty who put the fanatic in fan. It's the tens of millions of fanatics that spend their money on sports related paraphernalia like other guy's jerseys, insanely priced shoes and anything else that are endorsed by "their" guy and pay dearly for a chance to see "their" team in action that makes paying sports "stars" the incredibly high salaries possible. Pro and college sports are big business fueled by people willing to part with their hard-earned cash to get a piece of the action.

So if a relatively few folks can make a huge amount of money off the billions spent by fans, good for them.

I'm not going to pay a guy $17M to talk but I'm fine if somebody else wants too. Nobody is taking that money out of my pocket.

Obviously, his employer is going to make more than $17M of of his talking. And that employer is going to employ lots of other people and feed lots of other families because this guy is on the air.

Re: why i hate sports - 02/29/20 03:05 PM

Pro athletes are capitolizing on thier God given talent to be successful, but not without plenty of hard work and dedication to achieve that success. Are they overpaid? No, their pay is a reflection of the revenue they are generating, and that is how capitolism works.
When someone else decides that is too much, and it isn't fair that they are paid more than the rest of us, that is Socialism.

You are only overpaid if there is someone who can do your job as good as you, that will do it for less.

The amount of money being paid to entertainers is crazy to me! I don’t support it but that doesn’t make it wrong if someone wants to pay it. I certainly wouldn’t turn down a hefty salary to trap for a living! I would have no problem if someone wanted to pay me a ridiculous amount of money to record my trapping instruction/entertainment! Any takers? Please PM me! I’m sure my messages will be full later today!!!

If you divide Rush Limbaugh's annual income by 240 days a year it comes out to around $352,083 per episode. And all he does is talk for three hours a day. LOL

I'm happy to live in a country were the sky is the limit! If you want to make millions the only thing keeping you from doing it is yourself.

Re: why i hate sports - 02/29/20 04:23 PM

I think the point he is trying to make is the huge pay difference between jobs that are needed ie, police, fire, ambualnce workers and the pay for jobs that quite frankly are not important at all. I cant fault the guy for signing that deal, because I would have. And NO I am not a Bernie supporter, dont think everyone should get paid the same. Some professions should be paid more than others, but sitting in a chair talking about of all things a game, should not be worth a million dollars a day.

That is the problem I have with the astronomical salary paid to sports figures on and off the field.
The money does come out of my pocket and yours. Who do you think pays for the millions of dollars of advertisements. Do you think the company subtracts their ad budget from their profit margin? No! It is passed on to the consumer. Why do you think a loaded pickup sells for 75,000?

No. Americans are materialistic and need to compete with the Jone's so they pay willingly for that truck . Most people that drive new expensive trucks are not rich and are throwing away their wealth. As long as people will pay and banks will finance, prices won't come down. Nothing to do with advertising and large contracts.

Re: why i hate sports - 02/29/20 10:45 PM

My observation is that most folks that frequent the Trapperman site consider themselves to be conservative. The meme threads are a great example of how we take pleasure making fun of, and pointing out the absurdity of many liberal policies and beliefs. I have noticed however, that the one liberal hook that many conservatives seem willing to swallow is falling for the old reliable class envy/income inequality argument. Rich folk don't deserve to be rich. Rich people are not paying their "fair share". All those rich folks got rich on the backs of us working people, etc. This whole "stick it to the evil rich" idea is the driving force behind the Sanders campaign, and more folks than ever are buying in to this Socialist philosophy.

Back to the issue of overpaid athletes, even if you never watched professional sports in your life, everyone benefits in one way or another from a booming entertainment industry that helps fuel our thriving economy. Gas stations, resturants, bars, hotels all generate and circulate more money and provide more jobs. Companies the build stadiums, gas stations resturants.......all benefit. Agriculture produces the food and beverage, even if it is all Kale and fruity craft beer. The entertainment and luxury industries all generate another level of economic prosperity above and beyond the staple needs of just getting to work, buying your groceries and making mortgage payments. People making lots of money spend lots of money which makes the entire economy better for everyone, from dish washer, auto mechanic, farmer or car salesman. The money they make is not taking away from your earning potential, it is adding to it.

And before I get off my soapbox, folks who engage in a business that produces a luxury item like fur should be the last people to complain about successful people who may actually have the extra money to go out and buy a fur coat or coyote trimmed Canada Goose parka.

Couldn't care less about sports... But I'd be willing to bet that Romo will be doing good if he sees 7 million of that 17 million salary. The government loves those big salaries... Plus, I'm sure his agent gets his XX %, etc... Not saying I feel sorry for him. But the government's greed should bother everyone.

Kind of a broad brush to paint with saying one dislikes sports. I enjoy going to high school sporting events and minor league BB etc. Not many HS announcers making a living announcing games. We have not had children in HS for 27 years and still enjoy watching neighborhood youth compete and learn.

I don't think this thread went the direction the OP intended when he started it. He forgot to look at everything before he posts and read and read it and try to figure out "how could someone twist this around to make me look bad?" Then rewrite it three times in different ways, inspect it for angles that can be used to make him look like the bad guy, delete it, sleep on it for a day or two, retype it, re-analyze it, ask his wife to proof read it, then ultimately forget the whole thing because someone will figure a way to defend the other side, even if they hate it even worse than he did, just because they have a little free time to do it. lol

Many of the ultra-rich never did a single productive thing in their lives. They have their fortunes simply because the were born into a family that had very successful person in past generations. How do you feel about them.
At least the athletes put practice time in, risk injury, and possess a talent. If they are liked by an audience when the announce games when their playing years are done, they should be paid what the market provides.

It has no impact on my life and is none of my business. Envy can be a nasty disease.

If he and the other rich folks buy lots of stuff and give a bunch to charity and pay their taxes, they spread the cash around and benefit the entire country.

I don't watch sports, not team sports anyway. What I don't get is people getting fanatical over teams ie; wearing other mens names on their shirts, having heart attacks while screaming during the games, paying absurd money to watch them etc. If I liked something that much I would do it myself, not watch it...…..

What? Like making a bet with their wives? Or treating them like property and using them as currency?

I would think a human being wouldn’t be legal tender. Why would any person agree to be used in that way?

Has this actually ever happened, I feel like we would see that in the news.

That is what is great about an election year, look at all the money that is spent in the U.S.
