Sold some ‘rats today

Sold some ‘rats today - 03/01/20 01:03 AM

So, since I live 2000 miles away from groeny (even though he rocks!), I sold about 350 ‘rats to a country buyer here in eastern Washington. I was happy with the average and thought I was treated most fairly. If Hicks Creek Fur comes through your area buying fur, you will want to do business with Doug. Stand up guy.

Averaged $3.60. It’s nice to bring your fur to a buyer and leave 30 minutes later with a check. As a man who loves to trap for the love of trapping, the fact that we still have willing buyers in the country, should not be taken for granted.

That's not at all bad for those sand 'rats you have over there; sorry, couldn't resist the dig. I wish I could remember the guy's name over there I used to buy lots of rat's from in the late 70's, but when I compared them with the west side "Fraser Valley rats" it was like comparing Montana coyotes with western Washington coyotes.
Just curious; are you mainly using colony traps or some other such device?

Country buyers are a big plus in our industry not all of us like to the play auction casino.

I have a couple hundred for the March sale at FHA. Your $3.60 average is encouraging that an already low rat market has not fallen much as of late.
