I caught one in late March last year that had castors that were huge and as hard as a turkey gizzard. Didn’t weigh it, but it was the largest castor glands I’ve ever seen. A little larger than a tennis ball.

Re: Castorzilla - 03/19/20 10:45 AM
thanx for the info guys,i'll put up a pic of em this afternoon.
This is a set of hardened "barkstone" castors from couple of years ago.
Another set that were big but not hardened. In my opinion the hard mineralized "barkstone" castors are not functional, therefore are more likely an infection of some sort that caused them to metastasize like a hardened udder in a cow or goat.
What kinda knife is that, Mark?

Looks like a Dunn's Improved Skinner - I have a small game and small skinner combo and like them well enough. Here's the website:
http://www.dunnknives.com/products/
Yep, I have taken out probably 4-5 sets like those over the years. With around 10,000 beaver to my credit there's not many out there.
Lee, that is the Dunn full skinner. (Mine is worn down a little so it looks like the improved).

Re: Castorzilla - 03/19/20 09:03 PM
Question is, are castor's like that worth the same as other castors ounce for ounce? Or are they no good since they're hard?
I have always just added them with my other castor and sold them. Haven't ever heard back from a buyer complaining.
