Great week! Sheds, Morels, fishing, and horses

Since this coronavirus has put a halt to all the kids ball practice and games, and no school we've spent some of the best time together in a long time. We've been shed hunting and both the boys found some and I found the biggest matched set I've ever found here in East Tenn, it was 152". We also started building a new chicken coop for our new laying hens which all 3 kids were involved in helping. Then yesterday we went on our first mushroom hunt of the year and got enough for a good mess to go with our walleye. Today after church I took them trout fishing and then we came home and saddled up the horses and let the kids ride a bit. If there's one good thing about everything shutting down it's allowed me to spend some great quality time with the wife and kids. Here's a few pics from this week

Yea swamp we've went several days without finding any, but my oldest son(9) has found two and my youngest son(8) has found one so it's enough to keep them interested. We are going this evening to look at some 400-500# steers. Plan on getting one or two to beef out this winter so I'll put them to building fence this week. It's amazing how much they enjoy working at this age but when they get old enough to be a big help it's a different story. Lol

It is amazing how many people don't know what to do with their kids if they have to take care of them.

I stepped out this morning and heard my first gobble. I think we are still a ways from morels popping.

Well me and the kids finished the chicken coop today and got us 6 laying hens and a rooster. My little girl is gonna have them spoiled, she wants to hold them all the time. Lol

Plenty of wild turkeys but I quit raising any turkeys probably10 year ago, but the way things are going my little girl will have me getting her a few. We just bought #500 steer yesterday. Good deal flint hill, I'm going after work tomorrow to try to find a few morels. Gonna take my 9 yr old turkey hunting Saturday so that should be interesting

Well we found another nice shed today, then went and roosted 4 big gobblers this evening for the mornings hunt. Should be a fun time in the morning. My 9yr old is more than excited, we've been shooting the 20 gauge this evening and I think he'll be okay if he can quit talking long enough for one to get close enough. Lol. Also checked my trail cam and had several pics of turkeys and a big ole bear

Is that your Christmas tree farm behind the chickens?

Yes it is. We have about 20,000 Frazier firs that we grow. Me and my dad and my brother all work full time and grow those on the side. It's a lot of work but it's nice to have the extra income right around Christmas as well. Helped me to get a start on life, I planted my first ones when I was 14 and sold them when I turned 21 and used that money to start on my house

Well we had turkeys all over us this morning, including 4 big toms but my son never could get his gun on one, going to go back this evening so hopefully he'll get one
