Where is the Stimulus going? - 03/25/20 11:32 PM
I just divided $2 trillion by 328+ million(population of US) and that comes out to over $6000 for every man, women and child in the US. Yet we are to get $2400 per couple, $1200 per individual, and $500 per child. It is still not know if your income is low enough to not have had to file taxes whether or not you will receive anything.
So who is getting the extra $4000(or there about)?
If they want to really get the economy back give everyone $6000 and tell them they have 90 days to spend it or they loose it. Don’t give it to corporations so they can get their stock price back up to make their stockholders happy. If your administration was really concerned for your well being giving everyone $6000 with a time limit would boost the economy like no one has ever seen. The way it is going now all our government is doing is satisfying big business.
Everyone laughed at Yang for proposing giving every man, woman and child a $1000. Looks like he may have the last laugh.

I'm so mad about this stimulus, its blatant theft by corrupt politicians and the American people thinks it great. Take about $20,000 from each tax payer give them back a thousand or 2 call it a stimulus package and the dum sheep think its great. No one should have to save for tough times, no company should worry about being in sound financial position just spend every dollar you have plus whatever you can borrow and when you get in trouble the government will bail you out.I'm about to start voting straight democratic and get this show on the road.

I forgot $600 on top of state unemployment. The senator Graham said tonight it was $1100 a week for unemployment in SC. He’s one of a few voting No if that stays in. I wish I made that kind of money for sitting on my butt

The biggest shame of all is that these politicians will not be held accountable for what they are doing in regards to this stimulus bill. They should be held accountable......with extreme prejudice.

Graham and other GOP senators argued that state unemployment benefits plus $600 a week would result in higher pay for staying home than for working for people making less than $23 per hour. That argument was correct but
an easy fix would have been to make it as lump sum payment (of whatever amount) rather than as weekly payments. People could then do what they wanted with the money but would have no extended disincentive for working.

Good or bad it is headed to the house now. If they pass it Trump will sign it. Looks like the D's gave up some demands and got some met. Business as usual. Time to enter that keystroke at the fed, fill the ink pots and start loading the paper racks on the printing press. The national debt is going to increase 2 trillion dollars in the next day or so.

Catch, you beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. This was part of the democrat's bill they refused to budge on. There were other things included that are ridiculous and have nothing to do with COVID19.
One other thing. What about people receiving welfare? They will still get their welfare money, food stamps, SNAP, etc. Will they also get stimulus money? Shouldn't this be designated for workers only?

It doesn't matter at this point. It didn't work in the past and it won't work this time. The money needs to go to businesses, not individuals.
Also who is going to go back to work if you can stay home and receive 110% of your normal income ?
Just an attempt to increase the number of unemployed.

Trump said congratulations America when it passed the Senate so if it gets through the House, he'll sign it. I hope it doesn't pass until it gets trimmed, but it'll probably pass.

I'm an essential employee so I'm making about $350 to $400 less a week for working than if I was laid off and sitting at home on unemployment and the $600 a week bonus. My employer has over 100 people laid off and there's about 15 of us working in essential positions. I'm there because I'm a Security Supervisor and first aid certified and the state mandates one of us is on at all times in that position whether we're open or closed. I can't blame my employer but I blame every politician for going along with this. They need to get a stimulus on for the essential workers that are contributing signed by the end of April. At this point it's obvious money isn't an object or concern. All workers that are working through this get $1500 a week for 10 weeks for $15000. It's only fair.

This bill was the brainchild of Trump and the Republican Senate. It only makes sense for the Democrats to tack on all kinds of stuff when they know the Republicans will do everything in their power to get this bill passed. Put the blame where it belongs. I would do the same thing.,

There's plenty of blame on both sides and with Trump. Not one of them has clean hands on this. They've screwed over the American worker that's working through this. I don't consider any of them to have a working person's best interest in mind. If any politician or the president was on fire at this time I'd have to think about saving them.
I've voted straight republican for years, now I wonder if it's worth voting at all.

Not hard to dole out money that one does not have to the interest groups that you want on your side. Each party has their backers and those that benefit from the special segments. Debt has been mounting for 15 plus years so this is not new, just accelerated. If this virus crisis holds out until say June to August there will be multiple bills passed, maybe monthly. There are millions of workers and economic sectors that are deemed essential which makes sense but also lowers the number of those eligible for UE which keeps the economy from the black hole and the debt astronomical. It is an election year and money is being spent to garner favor and positions.
We are having great difficulty on a national level to offer equipment that will help fight this virus but we got money to burn. There is a price to pay for being a materialistic and me first society, too bad it may be the lives of thousands of citizens.

Explain why Seniors on SS should get it. I thought this was to help folks and businesses effected by CV. How has CV impacted the size of a SS check?

Explain why Seniors on SS should get it. I thought this was to help folks and businesses effected by CV. How has CV impacted the size of a SS check?

Seniors are affected also by the downtrend in the economy.
Due to the covid-19 issue.
Stock market tumble, slashed interest rates, inflation etc.
They depend on a decent economy also.
401s got crushed, less dividends, low interest rates
means minimal interest income.
Every senior does not have a traditional pension so to speak.
Plus they contributed financially to this country for many years.
They are Americans....

My post above has the link in it. It looks like the $1200 is not taxed. The unemployment should be taxed and also the unemployment bonus money. That should be taxed at a much higher rate. The employers will be lucky if the employees don't picket in front of their business saying keep it closed. 95% of the 100 plus at my workplace that are laid off are making more now than working while I'm making far less (about $400 a week less) than if I was on unemployment, by being mandated to work. There's about 15 of us that are being screwed over right now. Trust me with my employer it won't mean anything either.

One thing the republicans wanted to take out is the EXTRA 600 bucks a week for FEDERAL unemployment. The basis is the state unemployment PLUS another 600 week. They are saying and it's true that IF we go back in 1-2 months THOUSANDS of people won't return. Why you ask. Someone making 10 bucks an hour is making 400 bucks a week. Sit at home and DRAW 50% more than if you went back. THIS IS CRAZY. Pay them what they where making and not a penny more !!! When they are called back to work it stops!! The 600 extra per week last for 4 months.
You guys are wondering where the money is going? The ONE time check is only a drop. ADD 600 a week for all who are laid off. FOR 4 MONTHS !!!!!!

I looked this morning who wanted the $600 extra in there and it was the Democrats. There were some republicans that were opposed but it passed in the end. It's heading down a bad road.
I was skipping through channels awhile ago and stopped on CNN to see what nutty Joe had to say and he's for a lock down of the country.
His next step would be gun confiscation you want to bet against that?
Here's the question will our military and law enforcement turn against citizens or turn against politicians. I hope the heck it's the latter.

I am a 17 year old that works a job that has taxes withheld. Do I get the $ 1200 as an adult? Under age 17 we are counted as children and get $600.

According to the National Economic Council Director, this is not a $2.2 trillion dollar bill as commonly reported. It is $6 trillion. Makes sense, the original 2 trillion dollar bill was 1,400 pages long, this one is 8,800 pages.

Catch, you beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. This was part of the democrat's bill they refused to budge on. There were other things included that are ridiculous and have nothing to do with COVID19.
One other thing. What about people receiving welfare? They will still get their welfare money, food stamps, SNAP, etc. Will they also get stimulus money? Shouldn't this be designated for workers only?
Why ? Why should those working right now be the only beneficiary's of this ? All the people will be paying it back through inflation/higher prices.People who have not even been born yet will be servicing the debt this will create. It's not like they have the money or have a balanced budget where those who are working right now at this momemt will be paying it back.

I think when this all comes out in the wash you will see Gov't going to a basic income for everyone-workers,welfare people-everyone-$2000 per month.
This is what is going on now since the virus hit,except the layered beurocracys are inefficient.Those scientists in the know are predicting more events in the future like covid and more often also,so everything will be in place and the economy wont come to a total halt next time.
The govt can claw some back from some in the higher tax brackets,but if another covid comes along it will be much easier and more efficient to put more money in peoples hands by just waving income tax on a temporary basis and no one will be left out.

ANYONE and ONLY the ones that lost their job should get the money.
My wife and I have both retired and she is currently teaching at the local collage. Both of our incomes have not been affected by this. So we have decided to find a needy family that we KNOW are hurting and spread it around. Thinking of trying to find 4-5 different families to help. Don't have to look far to see people in need before this started.!!!
