Rough couple of day

Rough couple of day - 03/28/20 01:14 AM

Its been rough around here especially the last couple days.

Just over a month ago my sons German shepherd that he got when he was 5 ( he is 19 now ) started have accidents. Just urine and this was a dog that would have exploded before having an accident. She had 4 one evening stiill brite eyed and active tho. He took her to the vet the next day after work and got the dreaded cancer diagnosis. Vet said he could run all the test and spend alot of money but based on the xrays the most he thought was an extra 6 months. My son chose to just make her as comfortable as possible but still felt the guilt of not spending all his money and taking out a credit line to do everything to prolong her life.

Things went well till Sunday night and she stopped eating, even the burger and rice he made for her every day when he got home. She went from brite and active to only moving when put out to potty. Wednesday he had to make that call and took her to the vet.
He just came home with the urn and my heart breaks all over to see his pain.

I am proud how he was able to make this choice to do what was best for his pup but (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) its rough on a kid and his dad seeing that much pain.

Just needed to let it out

I think most of us have been there. Doesn't make it any easier though.

Never easy.

Condolences.

Losing a good dog who has been a long-time companion is right up there among the hardest things in life. My sympathies to you and your son. He made a tough decision but i think it was the right one.

If losing a pet is not a good reason to feel sad about it than I must not understand why I have a pet to begin with When I was in my 30's I had to decide to put my Springer to sleep .He had been a part of 1/3 of my life .That was a long time ago now But that dog was a part of my life just the same If it is a little sad remember how much fun they had together

Always think about the 14 great years and not the last few weeks remember the good times and the great life the dog had in all that time. Sorry it came to this.

Man that’s tough. Experiences like that’ll make a boy a man. A lot of emotions when losing a companion, hang tough bud!

Had to put my buddy away on Dec.26.One of the hardest things I have ever done.
You have my deepest sympathy.
For us it was knowing Phoenix would be our last dog.
As I was writing this,my wife said she was in the kitchen looking for the dog.
We love them and will always remember.

best thing to heal a broken heart over a dog is a puppy !!
Ive had some great dogs over the years... Lil raised my kids.. and was probably the hardest loss for the family , she was a walker dog....if she needed to go potty in middle of night she went and woke someone up!! . We were kinda her servant

The loss of a good dog is as difficult as losing a parent or a child in some ways yet different those eyes of theirs can and will speak to our souls bringing up up when we're down and are always happy to see us no matter how bad of a day we've had they some how make it better even if it's by just resting their chin on our knee and look up to us .

Hang in there another puppy is in order when the time is right you'll know when it is .

Re: Rough couple of day - 03/28/20 03:27 AM

it is sad but a 14 year old German Shepard wasn't going to live a lot longer and I am glad he realized the financial responsibility and weighed it out.

I think too many vets guilt people into thinking they need to spend a fortune and go broke for an animal that is really just live stock we get attached to.

Re: Rough couple of day - 03/28/20 03:39 AM

Sorry man. It will be tough but trading all those wonderful years for a few bad weeks ain't a bad trade. That's the way I had to look at that situation about 14 and a half years ago. I am afraid it isn't gonna be long before I have to face it again. My constant companion is declining. I give him extra loving and attention everyday.
Lord help me to be the person my dog thinks I am.
My thoughts are with you my friend.

I saw this just yesterday and isn't it true.

Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss.

Dogs die too young and cats never die.

Been there too many times, not sure I'll ever get another dog.

Very sorry for you boy and the family. You son made the responsible decision. It was no doubt tough, but it was the right one. I am a dog lover, and when decisions like that must be made, it just about rips you heart out. You did a fine job teaching and raising that young man.

Not here yes the dogs live long but if I take to a cat like one for the shop something will happen to it never fails.
