Another capote finished up

Another capote finished up - 03/30/20 10:55 AM

My wife picked out the blanket for her capote at an indoor rendezvous back in Februrary.
Rain all this last weekend so I got down to it and made up her capote. She picked out the decorations for the back of the hood.
She ended up wearing it most of Sunday afternoon after I finished it up.

Muskrat, yes, Oshkosh.

Not sure of the trader's name. As you walk in the hall, he was to the left in the back corner. Whole table full of old wool blankets.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I drafted this pattern my self. Most of the commercial capote patterns are for very late 19th century styles.

This is a late 18th century style, think 1790-1800.

I modified a man's waistcoat pattern from JP Ryan patterns, based upon original capotes from that time period and paintings from the time.

The front of the capote overlaps almost armpit to armpit, so the chest has 2 layers of wool over it. Very warm.

Here's the pattern laid out on the blanket, before cutting.

She does like putting on a show. Even when its 40 degrees and blowing misty rain at 30mph.

That looks great, I bet that is nice and warm. I would like to make one for me with Velcro fasteners. grin Then sew on some ties just for show.

Waiting for the mittens from the left-overs of that blanket to appear.

Very good job.

What are some of the prices of wool blankets going for down there.?
VG and maybe some with slight stains? HBC blanket 4 point;
are there any Eaton's ones there?

I have no idea what HBC blankets are going for.
This was on off brand, made in Ohio blanket. About 4 point size, we got it for $30.

I am definitely not knowledgeable about the blanket market.

As to mittens, she knits a lot and has several pairs of knitted, then fulled mittens that she loves.

K snow thanks for your reply, looks like they ADD a 1 to the up in prices up here.
The wife took a weekend work shop on making them.

Blanket labels =google read;are the most important, but beware of recent sewing of them in on the blanket

Unfortunately, any time there is money to be made, there will be fakes and scams.

A label on a blanket automatically makes it later than the time period I really try to focus on.

For capotes, I will often compare the price of a blanket to good wood duffel material. Oftentimes, the blanket is a better deal "per yard" than material.
