If you have a Rough Rider and you've been waiting for an opportunity to pick up the mag cylinder for it, the Heritage website has them in stock right now. The black 22 mag cylinder is $30 and gave me the option for free shipping, and the stainless steel 22 mag cylinder is also on sale for $30, but with $12 shipping.

Mine came with both when I purchased it some 5 years ago.

Some came with it, some didn't. I bought mine a couple months ago from Fleet Farm for $100 and it only came with the 22lr cylinder. Looks like the models that come with both cylinders are running around $160 now.

Before that mag cylinder is used the timing will need checked and chances are set by a gun smith. Chances are that will cost you more than what you saved buy not buying it as a set. The timing doesn't need to be off much to spray lead.

MJM, do you have first-hand experience with that happening with a Rough Rider, or a different revolver? Seems pretty common to buy the mag cylinder separately from the revolver itself, and the only other time I've heard that timing issue mentioned was the last time someone brought up the Rough Rider and someone else said it wasn't an issue. I'm under the impression it's a drop-in, ready to go cylinder with no timing adjustment needed. Unlike other higher quality revolvers with swappable cylinders.

PSA has the gun on sale for $119.00 I seen in a ad did not look it up to see if that was with the mag cylinder.

I have never owned a rough Rider or shot one. I don't think cheap pistols are made with closer tolerances than a more expensive gun myself. I have shot cheap pistols that would spray the guy standing next to you. That was with the original cylinder too.

I bought my Rough Rider quit some years back and it came with both cylinders..Don't recall if it was first fall I used it on trapline or second.. Anyway.. It started shaving on the regular 22 cylinder and I was getting sprayed if shot it two handed. it also would misfire sometimes.. I took it back to Ace Hardware where I bought it. They sent me to local gun shop with it which was ok because i used that gun smith already. He put in new firing pin and reset cylinder timing. When went to pick it up ask what owed. Said was all warranty work no charge. I got a lot of rounds threw it since with no more problems..
I have other revolvers shot for year and really never thought about the timing. Learn real quick when get lead slivers in side of fingers and hand.

A $100 revolver is not timed like a Swiss watch. Those revolvers are assembled with parts from a bin, with very little hand tuning. It I no Freedom Arms revolver.Revolvers like this rely on some cylinder side play so the bullet hitting the forcing cone, lines up cylinder chamber and bore.Rugers use this concept.Freedom arms revolvers are lined up by line boring and lock up like a bank vault.

I'm convinced that these cylinders were meant to drop in.If you changed the timing for one cylinder, the other would be out of time.If it spits lead, then contact the factory.

Hmm, never though about it honestly. I guess mine its in time? I grab it all the time and dispatch stuff. Have shot a few hundred rounds through it and treated it badly....never cleaned it yet. Drop it in a scabbard and throw it in the remake bucket.......

If it is spitting lead, you will know it and should get it fixed. If not,you should be Ok.
