Good question. I’d like to say no, but we always end up paying for those who believe they won’t get in an accident, their kid won’t get hurt, there to young to get sick, they don’t need insurance, government isn’t going to make them have insurance, exct. Bet we end up paying for lots of these types of people that have this mentality. We always do.

Maybe the government should just stop paying for people's health care all together.

Health care Insurance should be like Life insurance, your choice!

Comrades, the first responsibility of any government is to take care of its citizens!

Re: Health Insurance - 04/03/20 02:46 PM

The ones that need it cannot afford it, the ones that think they won’t need it won’t pay for it the ones that pay pay more and pay for others.

Re: Health Insurance - 04/03/20 02:48 PM

^^ I disagree, cause we end up taking care of and paying for people all the time who are Not insured. So your stance is telling me that if you don’t want to be insured you believe if that person gets sick, or in a wreck we should just let them die then if they have no insurance? Everyone is supposed to pay for vehicle insurance, health insurance should be no different. I’m sick of my portion of taxes paying for ignorant people who think they are exempt from not getting a sickness or injured in some way shape or form.

There are problems with the whole system that need to be fixed. Why are doctor bills so outrageous? Why is insurance so expensive? It's all a racket. I remember when I payed next to nothing for blue cross blue shield in the 90's and it was great coverage. Now I pay like 300 a month and my employer picks up the rest. If my employer didn't, I bet I'd have to pay about 500 to 700 a month. Why do hospitals sell their uncollected bills to collection agencies for pennies on the dollar and write off the loss but the patient still pays the full price to collections? It's all a scam to keep the people poor. Most people that file bankruptcy is due to medical bills.

Poor can get Obama care cheap practically free. Was trump wrong to get rid of government mandate. I believe so because use now he plans on covering the expense of the uninsured.

Obamacare was anything but cheap or free. Now, poor can get on Medical Assistance (MA). If they qualify, it costs them nothing.

Sounds like poor people get it for free and people with money pay more to subsidize them.
Here everyone is covered.

And how is it paid for? By money taxed from the working people.

True, poor can get ACA for very little or for free. Millions of millionaires are also getting free or pay little for HI. They show no income which they have no income but are worth multi millions of dollars get almost free HI. The ACA is a very broken unfair program that the blue party started and will turn into socialized medicine.

I would love to have health insurance again. I cannot afford it. If I didn't work -- i would be insured. They will even subsidize up to a certain income level -- I am right at that level where they will not subsidize. They don't have "major medical only" plans because of obamacare. The cheapest plan we could get (as of 2 years ago) was about 1k per month for me and the wife. Those of you that have employers supplying your healthcare are very lucky -- don't forget to thank them for the portion they are picking up because it is substantial. Do not lump all of us without insurance into the " lack of caring or irresponsible" category just because we are not as blessed as you.

Well maybe someone in Canada will answer my question on the tax scale in Canada.

Even if you do have insurance, there is a deductible, which is usually about $2500, plus a copay, plus premiums, before it does you any good. You have to have a major medical catastrophe before it kicks in.
I'm seriously thinking about going to prison just for the medical benefits. smile

Ever watch the show Weather Gone Viral on the weather channel? If you have, you would have seen many cities flattened by tornados, wildfires, floods, etc. Ask some of those survivors if they think insurance is a racket. It might seem that way until you need it.

Re: Health Insurance - 04/03/20 09:33 PM

O.K. then not a racket, lets call it legalized extortion.

Re: Health Insurance - 04/03/20 10:24 PM

I don't have it. I'd like to get it in the next few years, but only if I can find a free market. I don't want to be paying more in order to cover fat lazy people. I don't smoke, drink, used drugs, overeat, etc, why should I pay into a system that benefits those that do? I also do not want a dime from the government, I don't want anyone else paying my way in life, I'm a man, I will accept responsibility for myself.
That said, I have no idea what the current options are, haven't been looking. Anybody know of way to get a fair free market policy?
