If they can't return the equipment, they say they will pay to replace the equipment. That's all fine and dandy, but the Hospitals will still have to order the equipment . Things that could take Months to get shipped in. If someone needs to be on a ventilator, they need it now, not 2 Months from now.

You would think hospitals with a few in reserve would send that few to the city hospitals if they were paid for them. Maybe even if they are not. I am sure a few would not. Still curious if the NG intends to shoot administrators who refuse

That's how I took this.
A small hospital ( 100 beds ) in a county with few to no cases still has to treat the population it has. I just bet when they do have cases the big city folks are going to rush those right back up. If you believe that will happen I have a great deal on a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

I wonder what happened if a local militia were to organize at the hospitals to protect their supplies. It's not "if" an area will be affected by COVID-19, but more like "when." Like others have said, money won't do a kick of good I'd the supplies that are taken aren't available for purchase when they're finally needed by the upstate hospitals.

The big city blows through tax revenue without putting away a proper amount of supplies to protect its citizens. Now the smaller towns that did the responsible thing are going to be forced to bale out the idiots. Who decides how many ventilators are enough for a small community?

I wonder why they are not sending the patients to the equipment. Then you would get the equipment and the medical staff to run it.

There is the obvious risk of spreading it around, but hospitals seem pretty good at containment if they know what they are dealing with and have prep time.

Unfortunately, this may be just the beginning of this type of actions. If I was in a liberal infected kung flu area I would be leaving for a free state. I think soon we may be closing some state borders......

When the guard/military and law enforcement begin seizing ppe for themselves its going to get ugly. Reading a piece on Reuters that said the international bidding on ppe is wild with the USA paying 3-4x the prices other are.....some stuff is being seized in transit...or bought at higher rates before they unload it at airports.....then sent somewhere else.....

You can assume that every ventilator in any USA hospital that is not currently being used will be needed for use at that hospital before this is over....but if it is taken away it will not be there to be used.

I agree with Boco. I would have made the same order. Resources go where most needed. More ventilators are on the way, but right now it's obviously faster to grab the unused ones already in the system.

Every hospital in the USA will need every ventilator they have for the next 3+ months......maybe not right away but eventually. You take them and your denying someone the use of it.....you can be sure that no hospital in NYC will be returning any this year...

Sending the military to take local resources for use somewhere else is pretty messed up when any sane person knows that those resources will be needed fairly soon.......and once they are taken they are gone forever.....the spread of kung flu is inevitable....

That was the 9-11 Commission that stated NYC needed more ventilators to be prepared for catastrophe., and it was after SARS "if" I'm correct. No Governor since has heeded that advice. Instead spending on more popular issues to insure re-election.
