We will not comply! (News story link 1:54 min) - 04/04/2007:53 AM
Ok the civil disobedience vs public safety argument is getting put to the test in San Antonio TX.
Vape shop owner: if liquor stores and convenience stores are essential then so is my shop. He has clearly taken all steps to protect his employees and customers above and beyond what any of the "essential businesses" are doing.
What are your thoughts on this particular case? I live close enough to SA TX that I think I know how this will shake out. We shall see. I'm interested in your opinions plz share.

This guy is completely in the right. I'm not at all comfortable with government at any level deciding what businesses are or are not essential. As leftlane said, the shop has clearly taken steps to keep employees and customers exposure to a minimum. That is not going to matter however, because since he has dared to defy the order he will be made an example of what defiance will get you.

I support him and what difference does it make if they go in there or anywhere else. They're all going to get together at Walmart anyway. This is the dumbest thing this country has ever done

Seen Vegas lately? It's a ghost town.
It's also a state to state/city to city thing. I can't remember where I saw it, it may have been here, but there are somewhere around 7 states that don't have stay at home orders. So it's pretty much business as usual in those areas.

Iowa does not have a stay at home order, but it is far from business as usual. "Non essential" businesses, schools, etc. are closed and people are encouraged to stay in and not make unecessary trips. Pretty much the same deal.

That man is a patriot and a free American! Excersize your freedoms or lose them. I am sure he has a plan for if the city removes his occupancy license. I dont have to agree with his store or his business to see he is right. I have been saying all along what's the difference between an essential store and a non essential store? "The Invisible Enemy" is everywhere so why not let people and business owners responsible for themselves and their own health? If you dont want to go out to eat dont. You want to go play basketball at the YMCA have at it. BUT you have been warned and if you get sick the government is NOT going to give you free stuff.
..ONE NATION UNDER GOD WITH FREE STUFF AND SAFETY FOR ALL

Wow the morning crowd is full of great Americans. Yall watch out for the night crew, bunch of daggum yankee socialists an haters LOL.
Of course he is in the right and of course either the City of SA or Bexar Co Tx will figure out a way to run him out on a rail after they tar and feather his arse

I didn’t watch the video but I’m on his side. I’m embarrassed at how our country has reacted to this deal. All the majority of this country want is safety and free stuff. Neither of which they deserve.

I learned my lesson already, don't want a vacation just yet. I may get quarantined at some point and need a place to vent.

That’s one of the new coined terms that get me. “Essential”, so if I am essential I am still out there every day earning my wage while all the “nonessentials” cower with fear in their homes with their blinds drawn? Seriously, this makes no sense!

CBD is "essential" imo.
Google is now collecting "everyone's" data to see how the world is coping with this. The news said google will only be able to collect the data if your "location" is on. I have 99% of my phone features off ever since I got a smartphone. There are very few times I have turned the "location" feature on.
Re: We will not comply! (News story link 1:54 min) - 04/05/2002:07 AM
I'd love to get fined for a stay at home violation confirmed by my cell location data. My lawyer would request a copy of the warrant to invade my privacy and the judge would dismiss 3 mins later. And if not I'd find that guy who Sue's school systems for banning students from wearing chick filet tshirts and have a hay day with them.

The Black Death, that's what you'd think was spreading around the globe. I showed up for work tonight and was greeted by a guy directing traffic. He directed me to a gal who directed me to a nurse so I could get my temperature taken before I was given the okay to continue on to work. I'd already filled out a health questionnaire given to me yesterday and I was given another to be filled out before reporting for work tomorrow. Everyone was dressed in raingear head to toe and wearing goggles and masks.
If you've ever eaten a French fry it likely came from us. I work for the worlds largest producer of them. McDonald's, Arby's, BK...we produce them. Our work has come to a screeching halt. We are considered essential due to being a food product but layoffs are eminent. We'll know a lot more about the mortality of this virus in a month or so when numbers start pouring in but I'm really skeptical whether this was worth the drama and trauma it has caused.
Re: We will not comply! (News story link 1:54 min) - 04/05/2002:42 PM
It's a really interesting point, Leftlane. In that particular case, you can draw parallels between vaping and tobacco and alcohol for that matter. I can clearly see the shop owner's point. The "essential" part of this is just begging for some conflicts.
The stores like Walmart and Fleet Farm that carry essential groceries and farm supplies are allowed to remain open and are selling clothing and shoes and other items while their competitors in those categories are forced to remain closed. Amazon is increasing sales and adding workforce while sweeping up business from the brick and mortar stores they would have loved to put out of business all along.
I think we'll see more of these issues as this continues. Government overreach is getting scary in many areas.
For now, if I like a business, I am looking to see if it has an online presence and I can buy from them, even if their shipping is a bit delayed. (Maybe the vape shop has something online, but it shouldn't have to rely on that.)

Patrice I get what you're saying and it gave me another though. This guy is NOT letting ppl into his store. He and his employees meet you curbside, take your order, and deliver it to you just like sonic would. I think making a case that he is endangering his employees or customers would be impossible, he is more like amazon prime than any other vape shop except you burn your own gas instead of him buying a delivery truck. I'm no lawyer, but I'd take my odds defended my biz and its covid 19 protocol
Re: We will not comply! (News story link 1:54 min) - 04/05/2003:12 PM
In my hometown Walmart is open but you cannot buy many products , they block off areas inside the store , the state has shut down many companies all together , BUT , you can get yourself an ice cream cone from the local ice cream stand .

I agree. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
