A States question - 04/04/20 04:58 PM
I hear and see all the time where different states have fishing seasons. Just like hunting seasons? We put up with a lot here, but NO fishing seasons. Some lakes may have them, but nothing state wide. I have lived in three different states, none of them have had a season on fishing.
How common are state regulated fishing seasons?

None here, except, I think, for snagging paddlefish.
Wisconsin has sport fishing season and seasons for specific species mostly it means no fishing that species from ice out till after spawn.
rough fish and many pan fish have no season limitations .

When I was a pup growing up, fishing season always opened when worm season came in.

None in Georgia save for trout in the mountains, certain public fishing areas and saltwater.

There's definitely a fishing season in Virginia, but I don't have the details memorized.

We have a lot of size limits. Both minimum and maximum. Some slot limits to.
After I thought about it we do have a few "seasons" for certain fish. Spoonbill I think and a snagging season on some rivers, or areas of rivers. I am not sure about the spoonbill. It may just be when we can snag them.
