Yeah I saw that but wondered if those who consigned and registered had seen anything.

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 08:23 PM

Probably be another couple of days. Most of the FHA staff is working from home, trying to keep things moving forward.

Invoices for goods sold were issued last Friday. So that part is moving forward. Now to get buyers to pay for their purchases, so that shippers can be paid on (or near) prompt date.

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 10:30 PM

FHA has posted the Private Treaty catalog for unsold goods from their recent online sale. This catalog is available to registered buyers only. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

This will be an opportunity for the buyers who didn’t get what they needed at the auction to buy goods without having to wait for the live auction in May (or when ever the next one happens). Hopefully some shippers will see additional sales from the PT catalog.

I have no idea if/when/how these results will be posted. Just be patient. FHA will get this all taken care of as soon as they can. From a buyers perspective, they have done a great job so far dealing with the entire situation.

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 10:48 PM

Can you disclose some info about that, or is that also top secret?
Posted By: wissmiss

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 10:57 PM

Not much to disclose. Typical PT catalog. Prices appear to be what the valuations were in the on line auction catalog. Just FHA trying to move more goods.

Not sure what information you are looking for.

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 11:01 PM

I talked to dealer today and he said he would see If he could get registered as a buyer. He said If It happens he would share the wealth. Well as long as he wasn't restricted by some buyer regs.

Just that, but now if someone wants to buy stuff there is at least a little wiggle room on price right?
Posted By: wissmiss

Re: FHA results? - 04/06/20 11:19 PM

Probably a bit of wiggle room. There usually is. Amount of wiggle room often depends on the species and how it sold during the auction. Also depends on how many skins a buyer wants to buy. A buyer wanting to buy 10000 Raccoon has a lot more clout than a buyer wanting to buy 150 Raccoon.

The way it worked at NAFA was, if the species sold well in the auction room, there wasn’t much room to dicker in the PT room. If the species was ignored in the auction room - say wild mink - there was a lot more room for price negotiation in the PT room.

Everybody better be nice to Beav. He is going to “crack the code” and share the top secret info with every one.

Wissmiss notice any movement on the private treaty stuff especially better western coyotes?

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 06:36 PM

Haven’t checked. Probably too early for much action. Sales MIGHT happen once buyers have a chance to figure out what they still need, if anything.

One issue right now is getting the goods they already bought. Buyers in Canada might be ok as far as delivery of goods go. Not sure about China or Greece or South Korea or any of those fur dressing hot spots.

I know for US buyers, they might be in for a wait, with the borders being closed and all. The FHA staff has a customs broker working in it. But it is too early after the sale to expect much to happen.

I’ve seen 2 different prompt dates.

Invoice to buyers for goods bought say. 17 April 2020.

Saw an email from FH that says 23 April 2020

Either way, at least 10 days out.

BTW - I did my part as a buyer. I paid my invoice yesterday. smile

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 08:25 PM

You know I think FHA is deserving a huge Thanks from us for trying against all odds to facilitate a sale that would put some money in the hands of the trapper and I for one am grateful to them for all their efforts! In the same breath i am a bit confused over a .50 coon i hand picked every coon i killed and thought that perhaps 5.00 was the lowest coon i had but you have to stand back and look at a buyer on his computer looking at a grade and valuation while never seeing the skin or facing competition and taking a chance sight unseen on that lot, not a great situation to be in as a buyer or seller however i thank Furharvesters with all my heart for their valiant attempt at sustaining this obviously dying industry. Unfortunately I don't believe that the fur industry;s heart has many more beats left in it but man what a glorious Life it has given me!!
Posted By: Sanford Otte

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 08:28 PM

I see where a few sold. I had mostly rats & coyotes. 3.90 for the avg rat & 49.00 for coyote. Top coyote was 100.00 and top rat 6.00. Not great but I'm sure not going to complain.
Posted By: otterc

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 08:41 PM

I am also thankful for all the work FHA did to hold the sale. I had 3 3x xdk's bring $56 each and a nice 3x black $66. I am happy they held the line on most of the slights.

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 08:49 PM

What per cent coon, rat, mink an beaver sold, an section an price ? My rats sold slightly less in country than auction if $3.90 rat, 11per cent commision minus, plus freight fee I just thought of, same price country 6 wks ago, got more than that in dec

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 09:18 PM

I am pleased with the results of the FHA Auction considering the circumstances. My well handled crusty southern beaver averaged $12.50. As a first time FHA shipper I could see myself utilizing them as an outlet again in the future. I hope you all did ok on your fur at the auction also.
Posted By: bblwi

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 09:26 PM

I will check later but as of now no coon sold and only 27 of my couple hundred rats. I had 19 3xl-2xl 11 grades sell for $3.90 and a small lot of 3xl-lge sell for $2.90. All my heavier rats did not sell or my smaller ones either.

Only 38% of my coyotes sold, the lowest valued ones and none of my fox.
Posted By: novatrapper01

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 09:35 PM

I’m very pleased considering the circumstances. My eastern coyotes averaged 108us, and 18.50 on the few coon I sent in. Also my big bear was bought by a t-man member again this year at a very respectable price. I think it would of been a heck of a sale if things had of went as planned. This is the most I’ve ever averaged for my coyotes, especially with the exchange. Cats never moved but I expected that.
Hats off to FHA!

Re: FHA results? - 04/07/20 09:40 PM

My low end coyote averaged $52 October and Damaged high coyote was $113 no fox sold out of 23 high end rat $3.90 but most were in $2.30 had 4 coons above $15 and one at $28! but most of the coon were under $8. Hoping the next sale the high end coyote hold up a lot unsold but I would not by much looking at a description on line vs looking at it. I will be dealing with them again for sure.

Quote

coonman, it depends on how you slice it. From what I've been told, mostly the high end coon (big, heavy), with some damaged stuff as well, sold. So, right now for the more desired coon regions, the averages are decent, some in the high teens, but the clearance is low. Now, more results may be showing up this week, but what happens to the average when the rest of the 80% of the lot sells this summer or next year, or...?

When you sold to GFW with your last coon, did they take them all or leave with the common stuff?

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 12:00 PM

Not true averages, my low end coyotes sold for 25 bucks average. So I was pretty disappointed about that. Cuz I thought they were pretty good coyotes. Now here's where it gets tricky. So ignore it! Coon average 11:50. Only sold a few on the very top end and a few on the very bottom end. Top Coon was $32. So that was exciting. Not really. Badgers sold For $19 a piece average for two. That was the Brite Spot. Mostly. I'm just glad to know that the fur Market Has a pulse.
Posted By: Poorcoon

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 12:23 PM

Here's my take on the Coon Market. If it's top quality heavy big raccoon. With no damage. It's worth pretty decent money. Anything small. Or with damage Is worth $2 maybe or less. I'm not telling a lot of you anything. Just my too cents.

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 01:09 PM

I actually think FHA did pretty good, right NOW no fur buyer I know is buying ANYTHING. Being some coon sold is a good sign, it's better than nothing which is exactly what I would receive in the country now. FHA should be commended for making this auction happen.
Posted By: Saskfly

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 01:28 PM

When you sit back and think of the challenges faced by FHA to hold this sale, all I can say is well done.

1. NAFA folds and there fur input increases dramatically
2. They are holding a sale in North Bay Ont, Then in Toronto Ont in conjunction with NAFA. Then its only going to be online.
3. There is a global pandemic!

So besides wishing for 150 avg on my coyotes and 60 on my beavers, with a 100% clearance on everything, I am happy with it.

Avg 50 on my eastern Coyotes, 20 on my beaver, 2.90 on my rats. About 50% clearance.

Only sold my damaged coon which netted me a 1.90 avg whistle

No foxes sold.

hundred percent clearance on my otter, low price but at least they sold this time round.

Really feel for the smaller fur buyers that bought on speculation in this market. Hopefully not to many of them fold. Truly believe that we need as many options as possible. If you can, support your local buyer and the auction house.

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 01:30 PM

I sold all my rats In the country for a $4.00 nose count. If I would have waited to sell on the FHA sale I would have lost money.
So If a person would have sold In Dec you may have done better. And so far the clearances look pretty bad.
Posted By: crosspatch

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 01:49 PM

You lucked out Beav. And then the S.S. Corona wrecked on the rocks; people who bought your fur probably not so lucky. Wonder what the country buyer price for 'rats nose count is now.

Oh for a crystal ball.

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 02:40 PM

yes Beav very tight average on muskrat. Think they are grading tight to give buyers confidence. About 5% or 6000 rats were in this lot string : 80182 3X-LG DGD 98080019 3 $2.10 $6.30

Remember all the people on here telling the beav he don't need no valuations. What are you going to learn now that most fur didn't sell? I waited patiently to find out nothing. If i could have seen valuation, i would have known what i needed to know 3 weeks ago. After this sale, i still won't know.

Re: FHA results? - 04/08/20 07:41 PM

I think the sale was what we should have expected it would be. We knew conditions going in were about as bad as they could possibly get and not something any of us had ever been through before. The fact they sold any fur is probably a good sign and I'm thankful it wasn't a fire sale. I guess we'll know more after the next auction. Hopefully we'll have better clearances at decent prices or I'll have to eat my previous statement.

Wissmiss I tried to look at a bunch of my beavers and skunks that said unsold but cant find them in the private treaty catalog, does that mean they just sold but my account hasnt been updated yet? And castor also says no lots

Problem is, we don't know how many eastern heavy coyotes were actually offered!

Re: FHA results? - 04/09/20 11:14 PM

Kingrat - not sure what that means. Could be sold and not updated. Guess you will have to wait and see.

On the castor - it is almost always sold after fur fur part of the auction. My understanding is that the castor price has dropped off with the virus stuff going around. Castor price got pushed really high in the country this year. FH might hold off selling castor until the market comes back.

If FH were to sell castor well below what the country price was earlier, there would be lots of complaining,

Re: FHA results? - 04/09/20 11:16 PM

Well there ya go, those valuations in the PT catalog are the same as the values during the auction.

SO now everyone can see, isn't it great!

Oh that's right, it makes no difference at all!

Ok thanks, I saw they said skunks sold 99% but I still have 5 selects in different sizes saying unsold and about 8 lots of beavers that I cant find . I'm probably rich and dont even know it I'm thinking. And ya I'd be fine with them holding my castor until it bounces back.

Re: FHA results? - 04/09/20 11:22 PM

Looking at the mink in the private treaty valuations. Males that have a I-II grade have a higher valuation than a Select? And in females a I-II with ticks and scars higher valuation than a Select?? Am I dumb or would someone care to explain. I have never seen a PT list before. Or is this what was actually paid for those lots?
Posted By: wissmiss

Re: FHA results? - 04/09/20 11:24 PM

There are no skunks listed in the PT. I assume that means they are all sold. I doubt that FH updates shipper accounts every time something sells. Most likely they will show up by the time checks are issued.

Re: FHA results? - 04/09/20 11:32 PM

If you are looking at mink lots starting with 20043 - with a $12.00 valuation - it could be that those are a dealers lot left over from last season that has a shipper limit on it.

FH made an announcement back in October that they would not be accepting any dealer lots with limits during this season. However, it is possible an exception could have been made for a particular shipper or one with special circumstances.

And AKMike is right - every one - including Beav - can view then PTmcatalog and see what the valuations are. I’m willing to beat that if Beav or any one else that was interested in investing in the fur market - that FH would be happy to sell them some fur. Just show them the money!!!

Yea, that doesn’t make much sense to me. Must have been just a handful of Eastern Heavy offered, and sold for a high price. Not often will an eastern heavy sell for more than a western heavy.

If you can not find those 8 lots of bvr in the PT catelogue then suspect they are already sold PT and your account will be updated when PT is done. Just looked at my buddies account for him and he has 3 lots of bvr missing from PT that were listed as unsold on his sales report issued April 7.

It makes sense because they sold the better Eastern Heavies and held on to the better Westerns.

NAFA sent me an e-mail about a week ago with a link to their private treaty catalog. I take it these are furs that didn't sell at FHA?

Re: FHA results? - 04/14/20 02:59 PM

No those are furs from nafa that have been there awhile. They can't afford an auction so are trying to sell some of it I guess

Re: FHA results? - 04/14/20 03:01 PM

37 out of 205 rats sold. My larger lower grade rats sold for $3.68 average. None of the heavies in either 3x-2xl or xl sold or the smaller rats. My limited coon lot had no sales. I had 5 5xl-4xl coons with good or lower colors and none sold.

I don't think so. NAFA has there own PT catalogs posted. The FHA PT catalog is unsold fur from the FHA internet auction.

They have only 2 people working in the warehouse. They are keeping busy with PT inquires and packing shipments.

It looks like the online PT catalog is not being updated as Goods sell. I do know the PT guy at FH has been busy. Plus he is helping out in the warehouse. Castor is probably the last thing on their mind right now.

I don't know? One could say they ran new fur through a sham auction so they could sell everything PT. My guess, most shippers signed up for an auction? I only have two year old fur there. If they hold the line on the valuation( I CAN NOW SEE ), I can live with that.

Why would stuff sell private treaty a week after the internet auction? Do you think the market changed? Maybe the buyers just didn't have a chance to bid on the auction. I don't see any difference in internet sale and the PT sale. Maybe a price adjustment is why some stuff is selling. Something changed if there is interest a week later.

That's BS BOCO as far as I have seen or heard FHA has only posted prices on select goods. And that doesn't make for a true average. Same with eastern coyotes.

Re: FHA results? - 04/18/20 04:50 AM

I'm talking about the beaver avgs trappers in my area got not the auction avg.One guy had around 40 beaver sold-2 unsold all sizes and dmgs in 25 US
and another guy had around same 27 avg.Have heard similar from a bunch of guys at the workshops all across the region from those that had fur on the sale.
There is a lot of areas like N michigan and Minnesota that have similar beaver as long as they are not taken too early or too late.
I'm sure some had similar avgs if they shipped good beaver no scrap early or late caught.

I think fha would have mentioned those high beaver averages if they where that high, like they did with there inflated eastern coyote "select average" quote.....there keeping everything a secret for a reason.....I think theres going to be a lot of disappointed trappers when they see there PT checks.
Posted By: Boco

Re: FHA results? - 04/18/20 04:12 PM

I never go by the posted auction avg's to tell me what my section will bring,I go by the avgs trappers in my own area get for their fur.it is always at least 10% and often more than that, than the posted auction avgs.
The posted auction avgs include all the junk, poorer sections and inferior handled fur etc.
We have one of the better sections of beaver here-similar to minnesota and N michigan.
Posted auction avg's tell me nothing about my area fur sales-just like they would be meaningless to a collection from the south, just gives an indication which way the overall market is trending.
Most trappers know that.
Posted By: The Beav

Re: FHA results? - 04/18/20 04:17 PM

Boco we are talking about the FHA auction results In this thread.

Boco If a person from down south can view his lots and see what those pelts sold for then that person will see how his type of hides are trending in this market. But If you can't view those results then you are for sure being left In the dark about the market.

Re: FHA results? - 04/18/20 04:23 PM

For who? Just certain people from a certain area?If you want useful real avg's you would want to hear from shippers from different sections to get useful information.I just told you the avg trappers got for beaver in this area?Which is a similar section to Mn and N Mi.
Do you not realize the avgs are different for fur from different areas?

You must not have read my post. If you have your lot numbers then If you can view the results of that lot then you can determine how your hides measure up In this market. Of coarse there may be 1000 similar hides In that lot so know you will even have a better Idea how your hides measure up.

That seems pretty simple to me.

The auction companies - FHA and NAFA - have never given out true averages. The averages have always been for Section I Goods from sundry owners. On rare occasion, usually for beaver, they will post a Section III average.

Dealer goods are not included in the average.

Those are awesome Ave boco. Up here in northern sask I dont start beavs until the ice is off which is usually start of may. Right now we have 2 feet of snow still so my beavers are all slt damaged at best. I ave 12 us at last sale. That's for 108 beavs so far all sizes except small. However I get a $30 bounty on their tail, plus sell bodies for bear bait at 10 a piece plus the castor. Lots of guys dont even bother with skinning them but I do.

beaver prices are listed as section I eastern $17.20 avg or section III $9.20 boco you are correct on your avgs 17.20 us works out to basically $25 canadian ead the first page of the report it will tell you actually what was shipped basically and for you that only read what you want it said they brought back most section1 grades

FHA has always prided itself in selling beavs, right? Before NAFA's collapse and declining overall beaver prices, didn't a lot of guys say for the aquatic critters, especially beavs, FHA was usually better than NAFA but for long-hair such as coyote, sell through NAFA?

Re: FHA results? - 04/19/20 11:47 PM

I would take that pelt average in a heart-beat! Then I would add to it: $14 for castor, $.75 for sac oil, $2 tails, $.25 baculum (actual was fifty cents but divide that by 2), $1.00 per head (only was able to save and sell 1/3 of my heads with good teeth which at $3 each averaged $1) and $1.25 per carcass (only sold a small amount this year so that was my avg on my total catch).
