Who is still working?

Who is still working? - 04/08/20 12:35 PM

Who's still working through the quarantine? And what jobs are you doing?

While I'm fortunate we are able to work through the pandemic, I can see where this is going for some smaller companies. We are receiving contracts from other companies to supply them, while some other businesses are shut down due to the quarantine.. Some of these contracts are long term, 3 to 5 years. These contracts are to replace existing contracts that are being cancelled due to work stoppage. What's unsettling is i know and work with many of the smaller companies, that the contracts are currently with, supplying them with parts for their machines. I can see that when this ends I'm afraid these people will not have a place to go back to work at.

Our company provides support for utility/power distribution and circuit protection, commercial and military aerospace, electronics and communications including 5G infrastructure, and medical needs.

My company is operating at about 40%. I got laid off last Thursday. We make little plastic car parts. My boss had to come out of his office to do my Quality job on the floor. He's not enjoying it. And all salaried people had to take a 10% pay cut. Good thing they spent $8000 on toilet paper to give us before they laid us off.

one of my wife's friends is doing delivery within a 2 county area
started selling all of their remaining storage root crops and is starting to deliver plants.

you order online , pay with a card you can pick up in their parking lot or pay 5 dollars for delivery and they call you as they roll up to your house and set the box on the porch and go.

you might be able to offer your plants for sale delivery or pickup , especially if you add a vegetable to every order option.

Still at it...we’d be working with a Zombie Apocalypse going on. AT&T would just install Ranch Hands on our vans, lol!! The company did offer 4 weeks paid time off for those with young children, or over the age of 60, or an underlying health condition. I’d qualify for the young child, but I just wasn’t raised like that. Plus, those that continued to work got a 20% pay raise.

I work for Snap-on's commercial division. Our customers currently won't let outside vendors on the property, but we are still doing training remotely. I also work locally outside my home every day. Just not touching anyone and trying to be responsible.

My wife works in forkifts, so she is a work every day.

Daughter is a warehouse manager of a place that sells stone for construction. She's at work every day.

Still working like normal. 16hr days all week. I operate equipment at a large aluminum plant. We wont shut down unless its permanent. It cast to much to restart our pot lines. If we ever do shut down I'm good for 80% of my pay for 2 years. While that will be a big cut without the overtime it's still above what I require.

Only 1 day a week for me at the school. We are helping box up and deliver 170+ meals to our elementary students (breakfast and lunches). The rest of the day I spend trying to do my regular maintenance work. Got the grass mowed at the school Monday...that took 6 hours just to do around the building. I am still working, albeit from home, as an Employment and Training Specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. I play a part in processing folks making Unemployment claims so with over 90,000 new claims just last week, my job is busy but stable. I hear some remarkable stories from folks, some very sad, so I do my very best to instill optimism and encouragement to folks during this time. I also offer them job searching and resume suggestions to help them during this time and to help them prepare for the bright future that will be there when this whole thing subsides.

Whitetail Journal folded. Cole publishing also owns Bowhunting World, Predator Xtreme and some others I write for. They dropped PredX to a quarterly.

I am still working. Only 2 of us in the office right now but should have 3 next week. Alot of the folks I work with are working from home but I have alot of projects to try and get through. Stll alot of unknowns but so far we are deemed essential. My wife is a RN and very busy right now picking up extra shifts even though we have had only 2 confirmed cases in our country.

Nuisance wildlife trapping is classified as an essential business in Ohio. I have been busy since February 20.

Visiting wildlife habitat improvement projects and visiting forestry projects for customers are both subjective. I asked for clarification by those in power and was told that since outdoor activities are encouraged, which includes “playing” whatever that may mean, then to proceed but follow the social distancing.

I have been social distancing for all of my life.

Since we build some medical stuff we are still going. But 35% of our vendors are shut down as well as 40% of our customers. So they laid off 20 folks. Sent 8 to work from home like purchasing and engineering and CSR’s. Cut the rest of us to 30-32 hrs/wk.

Mr. S&R:

You do realize this thread is a year and a half old; going back to the quarantines.

Personally, I'm considering going back to work long enough to qualify for whatever new round of unemployment insurance developes

We're busier than ever. Commercial construction in both US and Canada... although the pace of bidding has slowed a bit.
Since a lot of our work is hospitals, we are considered "essential"
