Not Quite So Blurry

Not Quite So Blurry - 04/09/20 05:52 PM

Got a little better duck shot just a few minutes ago when this pretty boy stepped in front of my kitchen window. That window was one of the cleaner ones on my old house.
I have been struggling to get a good shot of one since they spook whenever they see movement by the window.

Great picture.
But I can see why they are so wary. I too would go the other way if I saw you looking out the window.
Keep shooting pics.

I actually was able to clean that window several days before since I had seen the Wood ducks out there eating my popcorn old maids that I threw out the door. I also stood back a ways too so that might have worked better than having the camera up against the glass.

I took my usual blurry shot of this Common Merganser Drake this morning but it was far out and cloudy. They have some cool colors too. I will keep trying on these since they pass under my window several times a day but are usually far out and swimming fast.

Ducks aren't the only things that swim by my house. This happened last night and I was expecting to see it get caught on my float but it kept on going and never came back.

Someone told Trapstickman that in order to be a good shot on ducks that you had to lead them a quite a bit. Trapstickman has been leading this one around for a couple of years now and he still can't hit them worth a crap.

OK, will do;
Just caught this loon swimming in front of the house. Love to listen to them. This pic is clear since I did not have to shoot through a window.

This eagle was just feeding on something on the neighbor's shore. Back to my blurry shot since I had to shoot through my window again due to the very spooky nature of the bird.

Re: Not Quite So Blurry - 04/12/20 01:46 AM

Those look pretty good MnMan. Keep shooting and they will get better. I put corn in my creek and set up a blind to get some nice shots of wood ducks. The bright water caused the camera to underexpose the common merganser. The side light of early am and late afternoon will get you excellent pictures
Over cropping pictures will cause them to get blurry, soft

That woody qualifies as a nice one ..Sometime during the mid 1980's I shot 2 very nice woodies on the same day I thought I should have one mounted .But I ended up not doing it I have never shot another as nice as the two I got that day they are a beautiful bird

Re: Not Quite So Blurry - 04/12/20 05:00 PM

The cold North wind put this Common Merganser right under my window this morning as he tried to find some calm water to rest. Two panes of dirty glass six inches apart helped to provide another blurred image but still cool to see one that close.

These guys are a hoot to watch with their mating rituals. I watched a drake breed a hen right under my window this morning but he moved too fast for me to get a photo at the critical moment. He swam off looking so proud of his achievement.

Every summer we see those at our lake channel. The females are pretty too; cinnamon colored.

Yep, I have one I photographed on the first page of this post here of my pictures. They have been pretty aggressive towards the mergansers when they are in what the loons consider to be their feeding territory. The mergansers make a mad scramble to the shoreline rocks when a loon comes by and assumes it's sinister snakelike low profile approach. I saw this happen a couple times today. I wish I could have got a picture of the loon in this mode but it was too far out.

We have LOTS of loons here.

The Mallards are my dock white washers . Dang things get so tame they will just waddle ahead of me crapping on the dock as they go when I walk out on it to chase them off.

I looked out my kitchen window this 11 degree morning and saw this Honker keeping my beaver statue company.

It is making shoreline ice overnight now.

OK, so you all don't like bird pictures. I found this guy in my shoreline 330 set next to my float when I checked it this morning. I could see this from my bedroom window.

Trap checking made easy, looks like a little hard water.

She was not in sight so I believe that he thought that the beaver was sitting on some eggs.

The geese are not only trimming my grass but they are fertilizing it.......a lot more than I would like. they are bold enough so I can go outside to photograph them now. I sometimes bounce marbles off of them with my slingshot but it does little good.

This one I posted a long time ago that was really blurry but I thought really interesting as I spotted a Wood Duck hen trying to swallow a large frog. Pic was taken quickly through a dirty window...timing was important.

This morning my metallic beaver statue was keeping a watchful eye on the two TRUMPeter Swans that fed along my shoreline.

I just now discovered that the loons that were building a nest on a piece of floating bog that lodged against my shoreline are using it now. I will be watching for more developments since it is about 40 feet from my window.
