Beaver Traps on rocks

I have a large lake I have been trying to trap. My only access is to a 800 yard shore covered in rocks going into the water and high upon land. Looking for way to set 330's in this type of terrain.
Locking down the trap with rocks on the springs do work at times and the trap sitting on a flat rock when you find them helps.
have been thinking about railroad plates with a coni-bracket welded to them and then set that way.
Looking for help here, not east trapping there by no means. Thanks for your help. Sarge

This is a control job, not an elimination job, lake is way to large.

How about making some floats for 330's?

I would if I could. Too many fisherman in boats. Very nosey.

Take some old jeans cut off the legs tie one end shut fill with sand and then tie the other end shut. Know you have a place to bed that trap on the rocks. Place the sand bag under water wiggle the trap down on the bag and your good to go.

There was a time when I was trapping this ripp rapped creek. And there was a ton of mink scat on those rocks. The mink were hunting all those cracks. I tried chunks of sod but It didn't hold up or It would just was away. So I had a bunch of empty shot bags. The light bulb went on high and I started using those bags to bed my traps on. I even used them to drown my catch.

I'm trying to figure out how that works with a 330 since that is what the OP ask about.

Are the fishermen on the water at night? If not a couple of floats just after sunset, pull in the early am.

Take some 1x4 boards 20-24 inches long and attach 3 screws or a coni-clip to the flat side in the middle to hold a 330.Set trap on board,then stabilise it by placing large rock on each end of the board.These rocks will also act as guiding.

Well I just gave him another option to use a foot hold.
But If he has nothing but BGs then he can pile up flat rocks till the springs are sticking out at a 90Deg angle and sitting on the rocks then place a flat rock on top of the springs to hold the trap In place. When I trapped coon out of those limestone quarries that's how we did It. Know there Is a way to stabilize a BG.

My line is all bedrock and boulders. No mud. I can stabilize 330s a million ways. A good sized rock balanced on the ends of the springs is surprisingly stable.

Also an MB750 on a slide wire is nice. Boulders as fencing. I use a very long 3/32 slide wire, and I bring a small cordless Hilti rock drill with me and put anchors wherever I need them with 1/4" rock anchors, small bolts and single chain links.

To heck with feedbags for the drowner end too, I use rock anchors again and stash my weights all over my line to re use. Always a few rocks with anchors already in within a half mile.



Instead of beavs idea of putting a stack of rocks, because I often have totally flat rock, I stand the 330 on its springs and use a pair of HEAVY rocks to pinch the springs down hard against the bedrock. If you rotate the rock and get it in the right position, a pair of 80 lb rocks will hold it really steady. Other times if I have a really large rock on one side, you can find a way to get a pole through the corner of the jaw on one side, and anchor the pole to the top of the large rock with another rock, and the wet end with...you guessed it...a rock.

You really do have to get creative.

Thanks guys for all your help. this gives me a few different ideas. The lake is deep and the rocks are all sizes. Plus did i mention the rocks are slimy. One bad move and your in 10-20 ft of water or fallen onto the rocks and cut and bruised. Not an easy place to trap.Plus raising and falling water levels don't help.
Setting floats would work, but sure to invite trouble. Can't set in evening and pull in morning, job site too far away for that.
