Coyote Days 2020

We've been getting a lot of calls and other inquiries asking if we are still planning on having Coyote Days this year or not.

The answer is YES, provided that life gets somewhat back to normal by the end of August.
Wyoming hasn't been effected as much as most other places, and it seems like projections and theory's change almost daily.

I DO know this virus is serious, and I'm not trying to diminish or ignore the threat it imposes on so many people. And, I also see what it has done, and will continue to do, to our nation's economy. (Just another reason to produce and export USA fur and get some of OUR money back).

I also know that the coyote market is one of the few bright spots in the fur market, and there will be a lot of people seriously pursuing them again this coming season.

My honest feeling is that most of us will be looking forward to a get together of this type by late summer, and we'll do everything we can to make it an event to remember. It's a great way to kick off another successful season for many people.

We've put together another top notch line up of some of the best in the coyote business for demos and round table discussion, and the information shared will be second to no other event.

I'll post a line up soon, as well as some other info. At the suggestion of our local Chamber of Commerce last summer, we moved the dates back a little to try to avoid competition for local motel rooms caused by over flow from the Sturgis Bike Rally in August. It turns out that it was a good move, as now it looks like 'The later the better'.

Hopefully the world is back to some resemblance of normalcy by then and everyone is healthy. Also I hope there is still access to them top notch rib eyes for the banquet.

Looking forward to attending again this year. Booked my motel room back in January. We all hope the world returns to normal by August.

Nope, only one for me.

Couple years ago I saw Ilcheck knock down two of those steaks like there were McDonalds cheeseburgers.

With President Trump ordering the processing plants to stay open, I'm confident the supply of good beef loins will be replenished by late August. A buddy of ours bring his Hobart slicer all the way from Illinois to cut the steaks the night before the banquet! This is BEEF country, and that's what's for dinner.

Good mornin John I’ve read bits and pieces about coyote days and it sounds like a great place to learn. Is there anywhere you have posted more info about it? I got on your website but I didn’t see anything.

Coyote Days was an idea that I'd came up with several years ago, when some of the guys I gave trapping/snaring instructions to suggested that I put on a get together for us all to meet and hash over things, and share and compare methods. I've met and dealt with a lot of great coyote minds in the last 37 years that coyotes have been my main focus, and I have a huge base of solid people with knowledge that they are willing to share.

The demo list is second to none, and they'll cover everything from fur trapping to predator control work, fur put-up and also marketing. Some of the biggest payers in the business come to this, and I've watched many friendships made and even rekindled. It's a great group of people, trust me.

I won't let Coyote Days get political, as we have no time for that. This is a place to share and learn knowledge.

I don't overload the building with dealers, as we leave at least 1/3 of the floor space for tables that allow participants to eat meals in comfort, AND visit. In the event of bad weather, I want people to STAY, and not leave.

Lusk, Wyoming is on the eastern side of Wyoming. It is literally a crossroads of Nebraska, South Dakota, and Colorado to the south.

There are a lot of things to see in every direction, so the trip can be broken up with lots of places of interest.

The Museum of the Fur Trade is in Chadron, Nebraska, an hour and a half east. Fort Robinson is near Crawford, Nebraska, on the same highway. Add in Mt.. Rushmore, the Black Hills, and a pile of interesting places in Wyoming to see, and it's a great low key type trip.

Coyote Days takes place on the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, on the SW edge of Lusk. There is several hookups for power for campers, and unlimited space for primitive camping, or campers that won't need hook ups. Fires aren't allowed, since we are usually fairly dry by the end of August. The fairgrounds collects for the camping space, and I know the price is very reasonable.

There'll be food available for breakfast on both Friday and Saturday, in the building, and also for lunch both days.

Lusk has some good restaurants, including The Pizza Place, that is locally famous, and a lot of the attendees go there on Friday night.

We have a banquet and fur fashion show on Saturday night, as well as a speaker or two, followed by an auction.

Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2020, Rachel Derner will be attending the event the entire time, and she'll be selling tickets for a rifle that are only sold that weekend, so there's a really good chance someone in attendance will win it.

We do charge for attending Coyote Days- $10 for the weekend. That will get you a wristband to show you've paid, and also to enter you in to a free drawing for another gun to be drawn for at the banquet.

I personally pay for over 20 motel rooms for demo presenters and speakers, as well as rent the fairgrounds and buy advertising and 100 other things. The $10 cover charge helps pay for all of that.

Thanks for posting that John. Sounds like a great time, I don’t do Facebook, I get all my info from here. Do very many wives join? If I am able to attend it would probably be a little get away for the wife and I. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more info on it. Monster thanks for posting that link I will check it out.

I've been to John's shindig the last three years, there are women there and many wives attend the Saturday night banquet, fur fashion show and auction.

It's quite the good time and plenty of sights to see. I'm sure I'll be back again this year.

I also attended last year and had a great time. Plus, a lot of trapping knowledge all in one place not only including the trappers doing the demos but the attendees. A very friendly atmosphere. I will also vouch for the pizza place. In fact, somebody told me it was voted the best pizza restaurant in the state of Wyoming last year. The town of Lusk is a neat little rural town. The kind I like. Hope to make it again this year if this virus thing clears up.

Some of the top names in the fur industry will be here. i won't list them, but it will be a surprise to a lot of people.

I know it's still a way's out there, but this will give some people the info needed to make a final decision.

I guess I should have had someone proof read the tentative demo list. I missed 2 people, and didn't catch it until early this morning!

Boone Liane, who recently took a South Dakota WS position, will be returning to Coyote Days this year. Boone does a great Coyote demo, and his insight and methods are second to none. I was glad that he agreed to come back again this year.

And, I am happy to report that Vern Howey, from SW Wyoming is on board to give a Coyote calling/ADC type demo. Vern has been involved in the coyote business for many years. I first met Vern in 1985, when he was working with the late Bill Austin, in Carbon Co. Wyoming.
We were both working as seasonal coyote 'Denners' that summer. I was working with the late Vernon Dorn, and we all met up one day, and visited. What I would do to get that day back, and a photo or two!

Boone and Vern are both two of the 'Greats' in the coyote world. I can't tell you how happy we are to have them come and share their vast Coyote knowledge.

We are getting a tremendous amount of interest on this event. I've been in contact with some of the motels, and they are getting calls daily.
