Raises another question.......how many still get dressed up to go to church? Or funerals.....or weddings?

I don't think I have ever been to any of those without a coat and tie on, but I may be the only one. I like my bib overalls as much as anyone, but I don't wear them to church or funerals.

The church I go to, I wear clean jeans and casual clean shirt. Very seldom see anyone in our church wearing a suit and tie. And I always conceal carry, as do some of the others I know of.
Our pastor is from Texas and says he encourages parishioners to carry.

had a priest who wasted a sermon on how we weren't reverent enough wearing our casual cloths to church.

when the bishop decided to take the wine from all but feast days because we weren't reverent enough I left the church that Sunday and never returned

some how I am less reverent that the pedophile in the front row in his shirt and tie. yeah didn't go back there.

shame many nice people there.

I didn't know the guy in the front row in his shirt and tie was raping his daughters till a couple years later when they sent him to prison for it. nor was he the reason I left.

what you wear just doesn't matter to me , you deeds do.

Once they start with coffee and donuts in the kitchen then its not long til they are in the sanctuary, and not the kids either. Policing that is like an old mother hen. 40 years ago we had a lady that was totally against adding on a kitchen then in the end she bought the refrigerator. If she saw a kid that even looked like they was heading for the sanctuary she was on them. Then once in a revival she was eating candy while the choir was singing. Afterward I asked her about her no eating in the service and she said it was for strength, so I guess if the old set the example why should we expect the young to be any different. We have a couple of 40 year olds that keep their hat on during the preaching. It bothers me but I usually keep it, but when I see kids abused because their parents were no good is usually when I blow up and my teeth get set on edge and I don't have a tooth in my head!

Went to a singing and they had 3 young ladies about 6 foot tall with short dresses and when they would sit all I could see was legs in front of me. I considered maybe it was my sin to be looking so I spent the 1 1/2 hrs looking out the window.

My conclusion is the church has gone worldly and the world has gone churchy.

Not suppose to eat at least an hour before receiving holy communion

Worrying about what people wear to church is bizarre. Man looks at the outside, God looks at the heart. Sometimes what you wear is an outward expression of what's inside you, of course.

As very much old school it bothers me to see how relaxed or casual much of the country has become. When the usher at church is wearing a Buffalo Bills T shirt, woman wearing jeans with big holes in them, or short shorts that's too much.Women no longer wearing maternity dresses or girdles, just let it all hang out. Men wearing baseball caps in church or in a restaurant shows lack of respect and lack of a proper up bringing. To say "at least they are there" is a kop out. Manners and morals have deteriorated too. How about beautiful women covered in tattoos? How about bad language acceptable on TV? I know that I'm an old fart, but when is enough?

I’m just going to be glad when the church doors open back up.

I'm with Pete! It's bib overalls or nothing for me. If you can't accept me in New overalls with a nice button down shirt then you can get bent and kick rocks. That goes for church, funerals and weddings. On the same note my grandpa and my dad were both buried in New overalls and so shall I be some day. We wouldn't have it any other way because they would not have looked like the same person without them. A year ago last month I was in a very dear friend of mines very formal wedding as a groomsman and when he asked me to participate the first thing he and his wife to be both told me is that I should be wearing my overalls because nobody would recognize me any other way. Looked pretty sharp with a fancy white dress shirt and bow tie! 😁 That all being said I would never wear my old torn up faded overalls to any of those functions as I see it as disrespectful. And anybody wearing shorts and flip-flops to a funeral should be thrown in the hole before the casket and covered up.

I believe this has hurt the churches. There will be some that won’t come back.

Do you suppose those not returning feel that churches showed a lack of faith by closing their doors or that those folks have just gotten use to not going to church?

Re: When churches open!! - 05/07/20 10:38 PM

I think when the church fails to assemble together it’s easier to stray away from for members. How better to weaken a church than to subdivide it for months? Church members are strengthened and assured through fellowship and assembly. There will be some that think “ I’ve done just fine without going”. It’s easier for old scratch to work on you when you’re singled out too. I just think when the doors open back up there will be some missing that weren’t quite as strong yet and still on milk. It’d be similar if we quit having trapping meets.

We had a meeting last night, going to open up in a week and a half. I was for doing it this Sunday. We'll b the first in our county. Some Churchs in our area have said they won't open at all this summer. Be interesting to see what the first couple of Sundays are like.

Re: When churches open!! - 05/07/20 11:14 PM

Churches began opening here this past Sunday, our church is still doing the online service but they are expecting to open in the next week or two. I think our church will be as full as always when we do open. We are a small tight knit community and everyone has been keeping in touch with one another since this all started
